Pretty cool! Especially since these have the nylon tip on the other end opposite of brushes. Now you can expect to play louder and Lars but the nylon tip can come in handy when you don't have time to get drumsticks or also if you just want to take one pair to your jazz concert or festival. They feel and sound very nice.

Until now (40+ years) I have always used Regal Tip non-retractable wood-handled brushes. These Ahead brushes seemed like they would address several issues - the Regal Tip shank is too narrow; I bend too many wires despite being diligent about putting them back in the original storage tube, and I liked the idea of the drumstick tip on the butt end of these. 3 gigs with them and my verdict is that they are OK but not great. They are dramatically heavier than the Regal Tips, but that was expected and easy to adjust too. It was nice to be able to adjust the spread of the brushes, and they retained that position. The tip on the butt end is a bit too large for my taste, and most importantly it had a ridge from the molding process that made the tone change if I managed to hit on that exact spot. But my biggest complaint was that the rubber coating was coming off on my hands - after a 2 hour gig last night my hands were coated in black. I now seem to have worn that layer off, but it was most unexpected and took quite a scrubbing to remove.
