First electronic kit and very impressed.

I just got this for father's day. It is my first electronic drum kit. The feel and sound is that of a nice acoustic kit. Easy to set up. I sa one question that asked if it come with a kick pedal. The response was no. Well mine did. I would highly recommend this kit to a beginner a the way up to a pro.

Questionable durability

This is my first electronic kit. The bad: Durability of the Alesis Command X is very questionable. I fully acknowledge that e-drums can't be played as aggressively as acoustic drums, but this kit began breaking down within the first couple months of playing. The first pieces to degrade were the cymbal pads. They're made of hard plastic, the strike zones are made of a silicone like material. They began separating and became unresponsive. The tension rods throughout the entire kit are terrible. They loosen after 30 minutes of play and rattle until you tighten them. One of the most annoying aspects is the snare support. I spend more time readjusting my snare than playing. It continuously sags. You play for five minutes, it sags, you readjust, play again, it sags, and then you repeat. Terrible kick pedal, although I've never been satisfied with the kick pedal that comes with any set. The good: It's fairly priced for what you get. It's a step up from the Yamaha DTX in the same price range. The mesh heads are very durable and responsive. It's got a good selection of pre-programmed kits.

I got these drums so that I could practice quietly in my bedroom. They are awesome, not too small and not too big, just right. They sound totally realistic to me. I like to put on my headphones and jam, it is really relaxing. I am very happy with my purchase. I would buy again. Way better than acoustic drums for practice at home.

I have had this kit since early 2020. The mesh heads play great, the tones included work well if you dont feel like using your own on PC. Over time however the high hat isnt as sensitive as it should be, have to really hit it. other cymbals bleed in from the rack when hitting hard

  • Great set to learn the drums

I use this as my practice set. Good sound and love that it has a zip drive area to play along with downloaded songs. Get a good amp and some high end headphones. I have played on expensive Roland and Simmons kits. For the price this one awesome big time!

  • Great 1st studio kit & quiet practice option.

I play guitar and piano as well and wanted to get an electric drum kit to get a feel for writing drum parts. This was my first drum set purchase and it's great for living in an apartment where noise can be an issue. The crash and ride cymbals can be hand choked - if you find one of them isn't choking, swap it with the hi-hat cymbal and it should work after that. I did find that you can't assign hi-hat sounds to non hi-hat cymbals so dual hi-hat action is not a thing on this kit. You will need something heavy to hold the kick pad in place, especially if using a double pedal. The toms are all dual zone (pad & rim) which gives you flexibility to have extra cymbals or more cowbell on your preset kits. If you buy a 4th tom to add on like I did, be aware that you will only gain one pad sound - you will not have a sound on the rim for Tom 4. About a year into having the kit, my snare pad stopped responding and I had to send it in to be repaired (pro coverage). I got it back a little over a week later and they fixed the issue. I was pleasantly surprised by this since other comments make the Pro Coverage process seem like a bigger hassle than it is. Overall, this is a great electronic kit with plenty of sounds to select from as well as MIDI programmability with any DAW. I bought my kit in March 2021 and am still happy with my purchase.

  • Small space? This kit perfect and is HUGE on sound!

I had researched a LOT of drum kits, mostly electronic, living in an area where everyone one lives close to each other and are on the older side. I read hundreds of reviews, I went to a bunch of stores and hit, choked, bell'd, wailed and paradiddled on every electronic kit I could find and this one was definitely the most economical while being the most versatile. Big bang for your buck. I realized it had a USB interface and I will be trying to hook it up to a PC/Ipad/Whatever will plug into it and get back to this review once that's done. In the meantime, whether pro or newb, if you have little space but need to rock out with some sensitivity to your kit, GRAB THIS ONE!!!!!

This is my 2nd electronic kit, which is used by my 12 y/o son. Our 1st was a Simmons SD350. We used that for several years, then upgraded to this. Have had the Alesis kit for about 6 months. There are several features this kit has that I think are essential for e kits. First, the number of user kits. We play a lot of different music types, and I enjoy being able to create a new kit to match the sounds of the new songs we learn. Second, is the number of sounds. This has tons of voices to choose from, and each voice can be adjusted. The SD350 had quite a few voices, but many were unusable. Alesis has much better sound quality and many more usable sounds. Third, is the dual zones on all the pads. Love being able to add sounds to the rims. Some e kits feel like a toy. This has a nice sturdy frame that is a big upgrade from my previous kit. However, the mesh heads feel equal to the cheap SD350. Dont get me wrong, they feel great, but I was expecting an upgraded feel that I was a little disappointed by. I have one main complaint. The user interface is annoying. Takes time and effort to navigate the menu and build kits. Somewhat expected at the price point, but Alesis really missed an opportunity to add a USB to connect to an APP. Even the cheap Simmons kit had that. If this could connect to a PC and have a better interface to interact with the kit, this would be a 5 star kit. Overall, I'm very pleased with the kit. Sound and material quality are great, which is the most important thing. They just missed an easy opportunity to add an APP. If the interface were easier, or I could use an app to adjust my kits, this would be 5 star kit.

Can i use a double bass pedal with this kit?

    Open Reply - Thomas
The ability to use a double pedal on e-drums has nothing to do with the pedal. If you can fit two pedals so they hit the trigger as close to center as possible it'll work. If not centered properly it won't trigger The issue is how wide is your kick pad. Take a look at the pad on the Roland V-Drums TD-1DMK as an example

It's roughly 3.5' wide, 2.5' deep and about 4' high. this is an estimate since it's adjustable.

The velocity sensitive bass drum pad is capable of this. It is similar to the other pads.
