Alesis

collapse expand iconDescription

The MutliMix 8 USB FX compact mixer comes with built-in effects and doubles as a computer recording interface so you can mix, record, or do both at the same time. Whether you are mixing a band or sub-mixing a group of inputs, such as a drumset, the MultiMix 8 USB FX is easy to use, rugged and packed with features. Offering microphone inputs with phantom power, guitar-direct inputs, and line-level inputs for connecting everything else, plus a wide range of effects, the MultiMix 8 USB FX delivers clean audio to your PA or recording system with hassle-free computer connection.

This dynamic mixer features four XLR inputs with independent gain pots on channels one through four. These XLR inputs also have a switchable phantom power option to accommodate both dynamic and condenser microphones. TRS Line inputs are also available on all eight channels. New to the MultiMix 8 USB FX is a high-impedance input on channel two, which allows direct connection of a guitar or bass. This is a great convenience for singer/songwriters looking to get a clean, "hot" signal. A Tape RCA stereo input is also included adding the ability to mix in audio from other sources such as a CD or LP player.

MultiMix 8 USB FX includes an internal effects processor to quickly and easily add new colors to your mix. Reverb, Delay or Phaser can be dialed up simply by adjusting the pre- or post-fader knobs located within each channel strip. MultiMix 8 USB FX also contains Aux Out and stereo Returns, as well as Insert jacks on channels one and two to allow for audio to be processed by external effects engines. This gives you an impressive amount of routing options in such a compact size.

Like the other mixers in Alesis' MultiMix USB series the MultiMix 8 USB FX contains a complete USB recording interface. Musicians and engineers can plug its class-compliant USB connection into their Mac or PC without installing any software drivers and enjoy a digital-direct stereo connection with virtually any audio software application. It enables bidirectional stereo signal, so musicians can record the stereo Main output into their computer and listen back using the mixer as an interface from software to headphones and monitoring loudspeakers.

A number of key design improvements are included on the MultiMix 8 USB FX. Enlarged knob-to-knob spacing improves ergonomics and in-use efficiency. The newly designed mixer introduces a sleek new appearance for the MultiMix series and incorporates removable end caps, which can be helpful for squeezing the mixer into smaller spaces in tightly packed setups. In addition to its improved signal-to-noise ratio specifications, the new mixer consumes 36% less power than its predecessor for reliability and energy efficiency.

USB Recording + Mixer Madness = Oh Yeah, Alesis, Yeah!

I just put the Alesis Multimix 8 USB FX to the ultimate test yesterday and recorded the whole band live. I am very pleased with the results. It's a great mixer for amateur recording, I use mine with Logic Express 8 on my Mac. You just have to make sure that your mix is really balanced at the mixer level because you only get a stereo main out to your recording software, but just monitor it and do a couple test runs to make sure each channel is balanced. I also use my Alesis to play iTunes music or Pandora through my PA speakers. The FX are cool, makes it easy to add a little reverb to the sax, you can only do one effect at a time though. For the price, it is way better than any USB interface that I have owned (Lexicon Omega or AudioBox). It did take a couple days to figure out how to use everything correctly, the manual wasn't great.

    Poor Quality

I was sold on this product's features. Perfect for small studio live performing and recording, all at a reasonable price. However, the quality is very poor. When I first tried out the unit it seemed to work great. After two minutes of using the effects, it hissed with static for 10 seconds and the effects stopped working. This happened on all channels with all effect types. As a result, I returned it to the store the following day. Guitar Center gladly gave me a full replacement. One minute after plugging it in, the power adaptor went up in smoke and it is useless. The power adaptors aren't anything you can simply pick up at your local electronics store to replace either. I'm giving up on Alesis and will consider the Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB or the Peavey PV8 USB.

I bought this product specifically to use for small venue open mic events of one or two performers with guitars and vocals. The first time I used it I noticed the power cord input pops and loses connection unless you hold is just right, and don't bump the unit. Also first performance my little 50 watt monitors that I've used for years in identical situations, well after an hour of use monitors start humming like a power overload or something. I traced it to bad speaker cables, bought new cables. Last night the same thing happend, plus the overall sound quality seems muttled, many comments from audience about that. I always pay for the pro protection plan so I will take this back and get a Mackie, they always perform well.

This mixer works fine. I use it for live streaming events. I mix two wireless mics and on wired mic.

    • Great for the money and flexibility.

I just needed a four mic input desk for remote rehearsal. This thing is totally fine for that. I wouldn't expect it to have that warm musical feel of a more high-end board. It is what I bargained for and therefore am completely happy with my purchase.

    • Big disappointment, garbage. Waste of money!

What a disappointment this purchase was. Had the Alesis FireWire multi mix with multi track recording. This USB version does not do that. Trying to record bass directly into the USB mixer sounds horrible. This is Fisher Price equipment. I do not recommend, there are millions of other options out there that will take up less desk space and have better sound quality. What a waste!

You cannot address the mixer's physical channels via USB individually. There is no multichannel USB audio return.
