Alesis Surge Mesh Kit Special Edition

Description
The Alesis Surge Mesh Kit Special Edition is a complete, eight-piece electronic drum set (five mesh pads for snare, kick and three toms, in addition to three cymbal pads), pro-quality drum and cymbal sounds and educational tools for tempos, grooves and techniques.
Ultraquiet Mesh Drum Heads
The Surge's mesh drum heads provide a conventional, acoustic drum-playing experience without the noise. The tension-adjustable mesh heads are nearly silent—perfect for playing day and night—and they provide natural rebound and feel for developing proper stick control and technique.
Authentic Drum and Cymbal Sounds
The Surge includes a wide range of expressive sounds from acoustic kits to electronic percussion. A variety of preloaded kits—24 presets and 16 user slots—offer drum sounds suited for any music style, and you can tweak and customize kits to your liking.
Educational Features
The control module for the Alesis Surge Mesh Kit Special Edition offers built-in tools for honing your skills. There are 60 onboard music tracks to play along with, and you can also jam to your favorite songs by plugging a phone or tablet into the Surge's AUX input. A metronome keeps you right on time during practice, and you can monitor your progress with the onboard performance recorder. A USB/MIDI connection makes it easy to record drums directly into a DAW. Drum coaching modes teach proper drum rudiments and stick control through interactive lessons, which include challenges at multiple skill levels.

I've wanted to learn to play the drums for years. After much online searching, I decided on the Alesis Surge. This kit is a step up from the Nitro Max. This upgrade provides two zone toms which effectively makes this an 11 piece kit. (E.g., the rim of the floor tom is my cowbell, the rims of my rack toms are my ride cymbal bell and a splash cymbal. The rim of the snare is a click.) The rack on this kit is also a step up from the Nitro Max. It's sturdy and stable. While the kit offers a lot of different sounds, my setup is primarily the 1st preprogrammed kit. The snare has a nice ring to it. So far, I've been very happy with this kit. I'm hoping it serves me well for years to come. #sweepstakes

I absolutely love the versatility of this kit. I was always an acoustic drum kit player. But due to space, this fits perfectly. The tone and control is amazing. I ended up adding a extra tom pad and cymbal and it fir in perfectly. Playing through a external amp/speaker just adds to the experience.
Great for the money...

I'm a guitarist... Originally bought it as a way to have drummers come over without having to lug everything they have over. The free drum amp sealed the deal for the purchase. Just wanted something OK without having to spend the money on a Roland but... I've found myself playing drums more than expected , lol... Created a drum sound through this kit that gets close to the heaver music I'm into, Bought the extension but had to modify a few things. Also replaced the drum pedal with a TAMA Cobra 600 twin... The drum pedal that comes with it will work I just wanted to work on double bass rhythms. Electronic drums are not exactly quiet but at least you can control the sound better than acoustic drums to stay out of legal problems, lmao. There are inarguably better electronic drum sets out there however for the money these are a great entry. You won't have to get a bunch of software to achieve an acceptable sound with this module if you work with it. Going on a month but if this kit lasts the warranty I'm OK with it failing then I can upgrade to a Roland... ;P

Can you use a double bass pedal?
The ability to use a double pedal on e-drums has nothing to do with the pedal. If you can fit two pedals so they hit the trigger as close to center as possible it'll work. If not centered properly it won't trigger The issue is how wide is your kick pad. Take a look at the pad on the Roland V-Drums TD-1DMK as an examplesubmitted3 years ago

What's the difference between the SE and the standard Alesis Surge? I can see the color is obviously different, but is the build different too? Is the rack still the same etc?
