GREAT Kick Drum Mic!
submitted11 years ago

I have used this mic for various kick drums (18, 20, 22, 26) and even on a floor tom (16), when the rental/ backline company was short on mics, and this little (and affordable) mic really shines!! Actually, better still - it allows the DRUM to shine. Rather than over-hype the EQ like some bass drums mics tend to do, this mic has a subtle low mid scoop (around 500), and a slight presence in the 5K area for a great click/ snap/ impact on the top end (if you want that). The low end extension (with a gradual bump in the 60hz area)is nice and fat and the very top end is rolled of for reducing pickup of snare/ hats. The Hypercardioid pattern offers great rejection of off axis sounds as well. And the high SPL handling (I believe it to be 155db max) means you will NOT overload this capsule. *Also, I have a/b'd this mic with the dual element AT250DE as well as an Audix D6 and this one was preferred by all who listened (live sound). Mileage may vary, but I highly recommend this mic (FOH Engineer since 1987).
