I purchased this as a gift and did a comparison with my Shure 58. Tonal quality is similar but just shy of the deeper tones of the Shure 58. There were two primary reasons why I chose this mic. One, the price. After comparing dozens of mics and reading many reviews, the Pro 61 seemed like a solid mic to practice vocals. Second, the Hypercardioid nature of the coil would eliminate much of the sound bouncing off walls that I expected could be a problem in the environment where the singing would take place. The mic will be in a teenagers hands and will likely be dropped on occasion but the solid construction of this mic will ensure that it will perform for years to come. One supprise bonus was that the mic came with a chord so right there you save another $10. If you are in the market for a great entry level mic, this would serve you well. The mic does not come with an on-off switch which could be a consideration for some users.
