Description
The Audix DP7 Drum Microphone Pack provides everything you need to capture professional drum sounds for live performance or studio recording. This comprehensive seven-piece mic set includes Audix's renown D6 kick drum mic, i5 snare mic, D2 and D4 tom mics, and ADX51 condenser overheads—all housed in a durable road case. With its combination of high-performance dynamic and condenser mics, the DP7 delivers accurate, natural drum tones for any musical scenario.
The Iconic D6 Captures Powerful Kick Drum Sounds
The D6 kick drum mic is Audix's flagship model, known for reproducing deep, punchy bass tones with clarity and precision. Its tight cardioid pattern rejects unwanted bleed from other drums and instruments, so all you hear is the kick. The D6's wide frequency response, from 30 Hz to 15 kHz, captures the kick drum's full range—from the lowest thump to the subtlest nuance. For over 20 years, the D6 has been a staple of professional drummers and sound engineers worldwide.
The i5 Snare Mic Provides Crisp Articulation
The i5 snare drum microphone is designed to capture the complexities of a snare drum with stunning realism. Its tight hypercardioid pattern focuses directly on the snare and rejects sounds from the sides and rear. The i5's frequency response is tailored for snare drums, emphasizing the midrange "crack" that cuts through a mix. It handles high sound pressure levels with ease for accurate snare sounds at any volume. The i5 also works great on rack toms, acoustic guitars, and percussion.
D2 and D4 Mics Reproduce Powerful Tom and Floor Tom Sounds
The D2 tom mic features a slight mid-bass boost to capture the resonance and projection of rack toms. For floor toms, the D4 provides extended low-end response to reproduce the drum's deepest tones. Both mics have a tight hypercardioid polar pattern to isolate the drum they're placed on. Their wide frequency range captures the full tonality of toms for natural, balanced sounds. The D2 and D4 also work well on congas, djembes and other hand drums.
ADX51 Condensers Deliver Detailed Overhead Sounds
The ADX51 small-diaphragm condenser microphones included in the DP7 provide transparent overhead sounds with superior high-frequency detail. Their cardioid pattern reduces pickup from the sides and rear while maintaining an open, natural quality. The ADX51s handle the high SPLs of drums with no distortion, and their wide frequency response, from 40 Hz to 18 kHz, captures the shimmering highs of cymbals as well as the lowest tom rumble. With their affordable price and high performance, the ADX51s are ideal overheads for any drum setup.

I've been miking drums at home for a while. I've learned a few skills. By no means professional, but practice always makes you improve. I bought this set because I was using sm 57's on the toms and a beta 52 for the kick. I got ok results, but I wanted to try something new. I heard a set of these at an outdoor concert at a church event at the pavilion in Penn Valley CA. that d6 made the kick come alive on a mediocre drum set. so I took a chance and just bought the whole kit. It made more economic sense than just a d6. I miked up the drums as described by the video that came with the drums. Wow! I am now an official Audix fan! They brought a LOT of clarity in my recording. I have only used a few cheap mics and 57's, so I am no expert for sure. But I definitely am digging these. I did keep some of the 57's for under the snare and stuff. I kept the 52 so now I mic the kick with 2 mic's. It gives the kick a full/punchy sound. I use the 52 inside pointed to the shell and the d6 at the beaters. I kept some other stuff too and miked it to the hilt and ran everything through a mixer. Then left and right out of the mixer into the interface. A lot of adjusting faders, but It sounds amazing compared to just a few 57's and a 52. At least to my ears.

OUTSTANDING CHANGES AUDIX HAS MADE TO THIS MIC KIT

I picked up 2 Eleate 8 Audix drum mic kits about 6 years ago. Back then the sale price for that mic kit was 2 grand a piece. The diffrence between the Eleate 8 and this mic kit is the overheads. The Eleate 8 had 3 SCX-1 mics per kit. The SCX mics were outstanding sounding but I found them to be way too sensitive. I could hear my neighbors talking in thier front yard across the street with the SCX 1. I used them once during a live band setting on a crowded stage and the soundman gave up trying to use them because too much bass and guitar was getting into the SCX 1. Even set up in my rehersal space the SCX 1 picked up way too much tom tom and kick drum...even they were physically located closer to my cymbals. No matter what I tried to do with positioning I ran in to that same problem. Higher cielings is what I believe the SCX-1 needs and to be used for recording...or a Zepplin style set up...2 overheads...Kick and snare...also a plexiglass shield in front if used in a live setting. I did order a pair of ADX 51's and that was exactally what my rehersal space needed. The 10-db cut switch and low frequency roll off helped to block kick and toms out of the overheads...although it is difficult to completly block the kick and snare out of the overheads...engaging both switches allowed the overheads to hear the cymbals more prodominatly over the rest of the kit. All the other mics are all outstanding. You will find that your soundman will love using these mics...because they will hardly need to mess with any EQ. I found it a lot of fun to move the kick mic around...trying diffrent positions with it...the D-6 is simply the best kick mic I have ever heard. The I-5 is also the best snare mic I have ever heard. The price of this mic kit...is also very reasionable. These mics are excellent for recording studio, rehersals and live gigs. It is the only mic kit drummers will ever need. Also I'd like to point out the Audix's warrenty and repair service is second to NONE. I had trouble with my SCX 1 mics...and they needed to be sent back to Audix 4 times before they finally got those mics RIGHT. They had some design flaws however Audix stood by thier product...and made design upgrades to my 6 mics...for FREE. Now my SCX-1's are very relieable and work as advertised.

Excellent microphones for the money! I have used them in studio and live situations and have had great results. Most impressive aspect in my opinion is that they are pretty much ready to go out of the box. Setup and adjust levels with no feedback issues. Very much worth the investment if you want to mike up you kit. D-6 is great for kick and the overheads really pickup cymbals as well as toms quite nicely. Again, very good mic pack for the money!
