Rhythm Partner is exactly that.

I was hesitant to purchase the Boss DR-01s for Live accompaniment use because after combing thru every specification list and every Review I could find, I could not confirm whether it did or did not store the Tempo setting as part of the 50 Favorites memories. There are few things as "Unprofessional" as Lag time between Songs while fiddling with equipment. After receiving and testing it myself, I can confirm that YES, it stores the Tempo settings and loads your stored Favorites LIGHTNING Fast! TIP: To Save a Song & Tempo, Just set your Tempo, individual drum pattern selections to your liking, hit and hold the Favorites button for about two seconds (until the button blinks), scroll up or down to your Favorites Song number destination(1-50), hit the Favorites button TWICE and your done. It then writes the Song settings & Tempo into that location. Recalling a Song is even easier… turn it on, hit the Favorites button , then hold up or down arrow button to scroll to your Stored Song number(1-50), and hit the Start button (or foot switch) and INSTANTLY it loads and starts, with the stored Tempo and either a count in or immediately, your choice. Boss (Roland), as usual, has created yet another Professional Sounding and Operating unit.. I own lots of Boss / Roland gear, and this DR-01s delivers. The percussion Voices are Great Sounding through a good PA using the line out jack in either Mono or Stereo, too. It even has adjustable Reverb onboard, lol. PS; of course this device does not replace a real drummer or percussionist, but it offers great sounding ACCOMPANIMENT for Guitar, and/or Keyboard and even drums. It's got a really good set of Latin and African percussion voices with a bunch of variations to choose from. I definitely dig it and so does my Band.

Not for paying gigs

I ordered this unit back in August. After almost 3months back ordered I finally received my unit from Boss. First blush from the first day with it the things is fine for practice or patio BQ's. I would not recommend for paying gigs. Even small coffee house gigs. The speaker is inadequate and distorts at even modest volume levels. For the money I was hoping for art least a little thump from cajons and kits.As is it is a glorified metronome. I haven't yet tried plugging it into my PA system with speaker out, that is your only hope if you expect to make money with this unit.

want it for practicing lead and playing out with acoustic guitar. But after using it a bit I am disappointed. It appears to have a 4.5 in. speaker, but 2 of the 7 modes (tambourines & shakers) are barely audible even at full volume. You can't hear them rhythm when practicing. Even when hooked into my 10 inch Behringer Ultracoustic, those effects are poor. So something is wrong with that translation. Drum tracks are just O.K. volumes by themselves. The gal doing the live review sure hoodwinked me! Probably will send it back.

I do acoustic solo gigs at restaurants/bars. I just figured out that I can use a Boss FS-6 footswitch (and just one stereo/trs cable) to tap the tempo of my next song, and then start and stop it for the song. The manual explains it. So it does work for me for live gigs. If you keep it at arms length you can push the buttons to add or subtract the various sounds (congas, bongos, cajon, shakers, tambourine, drum kit...) so it doesn't always sound the same for each song in your setlist. It has a 1/8 inch line out and so i can plug it into my powered speaker or acoustic amp (or mixer) with a 1/4 inch or rca (or 1/8) connection on the other end of the cable. I used the Digitech trio for a while and it works pretty well also but you just have the one regular drum kit sound, plus sometimes it wouldn't get the correct beat from my guitar playing. With the DR01S you get all the acoustic percussion sounds (plus the drum kit) for a better acoustic vibe). Just have to give it the right tempo with your foot tap before the song, which is pretty easy. I don't use it on every song, usually for the rockier songs (Last Dance with Mary Jane, Blue on Black) and less for the slower ballads.

I play this through my Traynor sb bass amp. It sounds fantastic!. It can spice up a coffee house gig, as long as you don't force it into every song. Easy to find a quick match for most my songs and is easy to adjust. You must have a footswitch if performing. Lack of adjustability while playing is the only drawback. I set the footswitch to start/stop and a cymbal accent.

So, can this unit be connected to a PA or an acoustic amp? I can't seem to find an answer to this question. None of the reviews on YouTube ever mentioned it. Thanks.
