BOSS DS-1W Distortion Pedal | Waza Craft

collapse expand iconDescription

BOSS is thrilled to introduce the DS-1W Waza Craft Distortion effects pedal. This reimagined stompbox fuses the iconic character of the legendary DS-1 Distortion with an all-analog circuit and discrete components for expanded tonal range. Since 1978, the DS-1 has been the go-to distortion pedal for guitarists seeking a hard-edged crunch and singing sustain. The DS-1W brings this classic effect into the modern era with a premium build and enhanced versatility for today's diverse styles.

All-Analog Circuitry Provides Premium Tone

At the heart of the DS-1W lies an all-analog audio path using discrete components selected for premium tone. This revised circuit provides a wider gain range and frequency spectrum compared to the original DS-1, delivering everything from mild overdrive to heavy distortion. Adjust the dedicated Tone control to cut through the mix with a sharp, treble-boosted sound or roll it back for a warmer, fuller tone. The DS-1W's analog design gives your tone an organic, responsive feel not found in digital effects.

Hard and Heavy Distortion Redefined

Since its introduction, the DS-1 has defined the sound of hard rock and heavy metal distortion. The DS-1W expands on this sonic legacy with a wider range of gain and an all-analog signal path. At moderate Distortion settings, the DS-1W produces a crunchy overdrive perfect for classic rock and blues. Dime the Distortion knob and you'll unleash the pedal's full fury—an aggressive distortion tone with rich harmonics, ideal for heavy riffing and searing leads. The DS-1W's premium components and discrete design give this high-gain sound a clarity and touch-sensitivity not found in the original DS-1.

Premium Design and Road-Ready Durability

The DS-1W features a premium design with a durable metal chassis, sturdy footswitches and knobs, and a striking dark color scheme. It's built to withstand the rigors of the road while looking great on your pedalboard. The DS-1W runs on a 9V battery or optional PSA power supply (sold separately).

I replaced a Boss OS2 (OD/Distortion Pedal) with the DS-1W because I already have a few stellar OD pedals. Overall I have been pleased with the effects, especially driving an OD pedal ahead of it

  • Waza Craft is worth it

I wasn't sure if spending the extra money on Waza craft was worth it, but I took a calculated risk and got it. The custom mode adds an extra *umph. Not only does it sound good through the amp, but I ran it through an audio interface and daw. It sounded toop-notch

  • Combine this pedal with an already overdriven amp. Wow!

I leave the Waza switch on Custom. Great beefy, tight, rounded tones. With my 100 watt Katana combo. I can dial in Van Halen II tones all day. No kidding! That is good enough for me! 😊

  • Fantastic high gain pedal!

The old classic. I'm old so I got the classic Raza. Not disappointed.

Boss has taken a tried and true pedal and added a twist that is actually as useful as it is simple to use. I was trying to get a particular tone and not having any luck. I have found when the new stuff doesn't give you what you want, go back to the old familiar stuff. This the first Waza Craft pedal I have tried and can tell that the enhancements added to the pedals capabilities rather than try to "re-imagine" it. Thumbs up. #sweepstakes
