collapse expand iconDescription

The BOSS IR-2 pedal brings you premium amp and cabinet modeling to craft your ideal guitar or bass tone anywhere. With the IR-2, you get authentic emulations of eleven classic amps along with twelve cabinet impulse responses, featuring premium Celestion Digital IRs. Powered by 32-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit floating point processing, the IR-2 delivers best-in-class impulse response reproduction for lifelike tone.

Shape Your Tone With Eleven Amp Types

The IR-2 gives you a diverse palette of amps to sculpt your ideal tone. It includes emulations of classic guitar amps like the Fender '65 Twin Reverb, Marshall '59 Super Lead and VOX AC30TB. For bass, you get amps like the Ampeg SVT and Fender '63 Precision Bass. Each amp type has familiar tone stack controls to shape your sound. Dial in anything from sparkling cleans to saturated overdrive.

Load Authentic Cabinets With Built-In IRs

In addition to the amp emulations, the IR-2 comes loaded with a curated set of 12 cabinet impulse responses featuring Celestion Digital IRs. You get selections of guitar cabinets like the Marshall 1960A, Mesa/Boogie Recto 4x12 and Fender '65 Twin. For bass, there's the Ampeg SVT 8x10 and Hartke HyDrive 8x10. The IR-2 makes it easy to get fully dialed-in tones without needing additional gear.

Tweak Your Sound With Intuitive Controls

The IR-2 keeps things simple with hands-on controls to fine-tune your tone. It features familiar EQ knobs for bass, mid and treble just like an amp. You can add ambience with dedicated knobs for room, hall and plate reverb. Switch between two channels with the front panel button or an optional footswitch. There's also a built-in effects loop to integrate your favorite pedals.

Built for Silent Practice and Recording

With its headphone jack and USB audio interface, the IR-2 is ideal for both silent practice and recording direct. Plug in headphones for late-night jam sessions without disturbing others. The USB port lets you record tones directly to your DAW. Power the IR-2 with the included AC adapter or 6 AA batteries for portable use.

Worth The Wait. Well...Worth The Wait.

Waited for 5 months for this to arrive. Which had absolutely nothing to do with Guitar Center. More to do with the incredible anticipation of this pedal being released. And I am happy to say it was well worth the wait. Here's the simple value prop: 11 different amps in one pedal. And each of the 11 amps has controls for levels, gain and middle etc. When I first connected it, it was an ES-335 through a Fender Tone Master. The sounds are truly awesome. I actually played a warmup thing that I do, and I stopped and just sat there. Gobsmacked. Order one. Get one. You will NOT be sorry.

Good but some issues

The sounds are great once you load 3rd party IR's as others have said. It works great as a headphone amp for silent practice as well. Unfortunately the effects loop is not very effective :). I used it live and my very nice reverb pedal in the loop fizzed out when I played hard, I had to adjust on the fly and put all pedals in front of the IR-2. It has no such issues when pedals are placed in front of the IR-2. The effects loop is the main reason I bought this pedal over the Walrus ACS-1 so I wish I had gone with that one. Of the amps I prefer the Boss original amps the best (Clean, Crunch, and Hi-Gain). The tweed and twin also sound great. I can't seem to get a good sound from the Diamond (AC-30) model. Overall good unit but the effects send/return needs to be improved.

It sounds very good, all the amp sims. I use it with my MPC One drum machine/sampler. To record samples or even a whole song. The tones come out sounding great. Then I can just practice on my bed with headphones and a 9vbattery. I purchased mine at my local mom and pop music shop.

  • Great for a backup or recording

Using it as a backup in my gig bag. I was able to get pretty close to my Fender Tone Master Deluxe's clean sound using the Clean setting. The other settings are great for recording - using it for overdubs and to spark new ideas. Worth it for the price and it's Boss - so it'll last forever.

My first time getting into IR modeling and let me say Boss totally nails it! It was a little daunting at first but take your time to read the online manuel! There's a wealth of info and it gives you a starting point to curve-out your tone. I don't plan on taking it to gigs but I can certainly see a professional taking this pedal on the road.

  • Ridiculous that 8 months later this pedal isn't in stores

Probably the most botched pedal release in Boss history. 9 months after initial release and you still can't walk into Guitar Center and buy this pedal. And online retailers are still mostly out of stock. Get your ish together Roland, geez.
