BOSS KATANA-AIR Totally Wireless Guitar Amp System Introduction

BOSS KATANA-AIR Totally Wireless Guitar Amp System
Description
Though compact in size, the Katana-Air is serious about sound quality. Equipped with pro amp tones and effects from the performance-class Katana amplifiers, this wireless wonder delivers premium guitar sounds for any style of music. To further extend the cable-free experience, you can wirelessly edit and organize sounds with a dedicated app and jam with songs streamed from your smartphone. With the innovative Katana-Air and your favorite axe, casual playing has never been more convenient and inspiring.
The Ultimate Convenience for Jamming and Practice
With its premium Katana sound engine and wireless operation, the Katana-Air makes it easy to enjoy rich, dynamic guitar tones—complete with advanced BOSS effects—anytime and anywhere. And that means you’ll play more often, improve your skills and have more fun. When you want to jam at home, there’s no need to set up your big rig or rely on the dry, boxy sound of a mini practice amp. Just plug the Katana-Air’s transmitter into your guitar and riff with great sound from anywhere in the room. Thanks to its portable size and ability to run on batteries, the Katana-Air is an equally great companion for travel, parties, jam sessions with friends and more.
High-Performance Wireless Technology from BOSS
The Katana-Air features new low-latency digital wireless guitar technology developed by BOSS, providing transparent sound and ultraquick response without any lag or dropouts. The included custom wireless transmitter plugs into any electric guitar, and has indicators for power and battery status. A convenient docking port in the amp charges the battery in the transmitter, providing up to 12 hours of total playing time per charge.
Always Ready to Play
Whenever the inspiration strikes, the Katana-Air is always ready to go. It operates in standby mode to conserve energy when idle, and instantly wakes when the transmitter senses motion. This means that you can leave the transmitter connected to your guitar, and then turn the amp on simply by picking up the instrument. And when you stop playing, the transmitter returns to standby mode to conserve your charge. In addition, the transmitter automatically establishes the optimum wireless connection when docked for charging, so there's no complicated setup required.
Premium Katana Amp and Effects Tones
Equipped with the same tones and sound-shaping controls found in the performance-class Katana amplifiers, the Katana-Air offers inspiring sounds for any style. Five unique amp characters provide a wide range of tones, from sparkling clean to BOSS's custom high-gain Brown sound. There’s even an Acoustic character optimized for playing acoustic-electric guitar. The amp also provides integrated access to over 50 BOSS effects, including mod, delay, reverb effects optimized for the Katana-Air’s stereo speaker system. And with six onboard memories, you can store and recall your favorite amp and effects setups at any time.
BOSS Tone Studio for iOS and Android Devices
The wireless Katana-Air is made even more powerful with its support for external wireless operation via Bluetooth. Available for both iOS and Android devices, the dedicated BOSS Tone Studio app gives you complete control of the Katana-Air right from your smartphone or tablet. You’re able to adjust all the amp’s panel controls, and get exclusive access to effects types and routings that are only available from the app. You can also save setups to the amp's memories, organize sound libraries on your device, and download free patch collections directly from BOSS Tone Central.
Listen to Your Favorite Music and Play Along
The Katana-Air is a true stereo amplifier with two custom-tuned speakers and up to 30 watts of total power, delivering big, rich sound for both guitar amplification and full-range music reproduction. Over Bluetooth, you can stream music from your mobile device and play along with popular songs, backing tracks, YouTube lessons and more. And when you just want to kick back, the Katana-Air performs double duty as a high-quality mobile Bluetooth speaker for enjoying tunes from your music library.
Music Production and Silent Practice
The Katana-Air also includes a stereo headphones/recording output with guitar cabinet simulation. This lets you directly record pro-quality amp tones and effects in music production software, and enjoy inspiring stereo sound when practicing quietly with headphones. It’s even possible to adjust the cab simulation's mic position with the Air Feel control in the BOSS Tone Studio app.

Solid product, wireless is nice, app works fine for me.
Small, but mighty for what it is. Tons of tones, good sound, decent volume (louder than my wife is willing to put up with), and the app is nice so I don't have to physically go to the amp to change things. This is extra handy thanks to the wireless capabilities. Being able to just pick up and play is really nice, and I find the convenience of this amp to be top-notch. I am a very novice player, but also very open minded. I like this amp, and it was cheaper than the Yamaha THR30 ii wireless by almost $150 (after you add in the, not-included wireless transmitter). I'm taking off 1 star for the following reasons. 1. This is very expensive for what it is, especially considering the amount of plastic used in the body and the cheap chromed handle. There are amps that are better at most anything the Katana Air can do at a cheaper price point... but no cheaper amps that do everything this does. This isn't a "one amp to rule them all" solution, but it just might be the amp you use most... depending on your needs. 2. There's no pre-amp line out, other than the "recording/Headphones" 3.5mm port. I would have really liked to have been able to run this to another Amp, or maybe a Realtone cable for Rocksmith. Also... being able to hook up a looper pedal would have been nice. 3. The wireless (which may be due to location in my house with a nearby 2.4Ghz router) will have an audio crackle that shows up when I first start using it. I read in the manual that the Katana Air will monitor the 2.4Ghz radio band, and change it's frequency in that range to get best performance. I don't know if that's what's happening or not, but about 30 seconds in or so, the crackle disappears and it's smooth, wireless, no-lag playing from then on. Bonus Note: There's a certain youtube video about the Boss Katana Air that shows how one might add some powered speaker out ports, so you can run larger cab speakers (in the 4-8 Ohm range). I've not done this, but it's on my list to do.

Not worth the money. Worst modeling amp out there for the $
It says 30 watts, your not going to get 30 watts whatsoever(maybe 5 watts or 10). They don't ever update their tones for the katana Air(they haven't added anything in over 2 years) the wireless is the only thing this amp has going for it. I own a 20wattBlackstar(3 times louder and cheaper than katana Air) owned a Yamaha 20watt(decent amp) and own a spark40watt(super loud and the app is top notch) for the price of the amp it's not good. It's maybe......maybe worth 250$ at most. For the moment, you not going to get a better modeling amp for the price than the positive grid spark amp.

I bought this amp to practice with at home. I Bluetooth music to it and play along with my guitar. It has plenty of volume and a good number of built in effects. I especially like the way the gain emulates a tube style amp. I simply love it!
Nope. At first, it works, but then...

At first it works fine, but then you realize that the tones that are provided on the App are very limited. Then the app stops working. Then the wireless dongle dies because it won't charge. Then you realize, it's not a good amp, but you're money is spent.
Love this little guy

I love this little guy. I'm an amateur but have been noodling and buying guitars for many years. I'm not a big pedal guy so this lets me play with enough effects to keep things interesting. I love the ability to pick up and play without cords.
What a great amp!

I have been using this amp for a while now. Like all Boss Katana Amps they are just awesome. Especially if you hook it up to your phone and learn the easy to use editor. Out of box sounds great, but using the tone studio editor will make this amp blow you away.
