collapse expand iconDescription

The BOSS Katana Gen3 50W 1x12 guitar combo amplifier builds on the legacy of the acclaimed Katana series, delivering an evolved tube-like playing experience for guitarists who demand precision and power. With its third-generation updates, this amp introduces refined Tube Logic technology, offering enhanced tone, feel and responsiveness. A new Pushed amp character provides a touch-sensitive edge-of-breakup tone that's perfect for expressive playing. The 50W Class-AB design drives a custom 12" speaker, striking an ideal balance between stage-ready punch and portability. Paired with the updated BOSS Tone Studio app, this amp offers intuitive remote editing, onboard effects and deep customization tools, making it a versatile centerpiece for studio recording, live performance and daily practice. Built to meet the needs of modern players, the BOSS Katana Gen3 delivers professional sound quality with seamless integration into any setup.

Refined Tube Logic Technology

The core of the Katana Gen3 is BOSS's advanced Tube Logic technology, which meticulously recreates the sound and feel of classic tube circuits at a component level. This third-generation platform improves on previous models with even greater dynamic response and tonal depth. It features six amp characters—Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, Acoustic and the new Pushed, each with a selectable variation. The Pushed character captures the smooth, touch-sensitive transition between clean and overdriven tones, offering the harmonic richness of a tube amp pushed into saturation. Whether you're dialing in shimmering cleans or dynamic crunch, this tech ensures every nuance of your playing is heard. Combined with BOSS's attention to detail, the Katana Gen3 delivers an authentic tube-inspired experience with modern reliability.

Comprehensive Sound Customization With BOSS Tone Studio

The Katana Gen3's sound-shaping capabilities are enhanced by the updated BOSS Tone Studio app, providing an intuitive interface for deep tone editing. Players can access over 60 premium BOSS effects, including modulation, delay, reverb and boosters, and arrange them in any order for complete signal chain control. Advanced editing tools allow for fine-tuning of amp resonance, EQ settings and cabinet response, while three Contour options provide additional tonal shaping. With the ability to save and organize Livesets, users can create and recall custom presets for any playing application. Whether in the studio or on stage, the BOSS Tone Studio app simplifies the process of crafting and managing professional-grade tones.

Power Scaling for Cranked-Amp Tone at any Volume

The Katana Gen3 features a built-in Power Control switch, allowing you to achieve the rich, saturated tone of a cranked amp at low volumes. Choose between Standby, 0.5W, Half Power and Full Power modes to adapt the amp's output to your environment. This feature is perfect for late-night practice sessions or small rehearsal spaces, where maintaining tonal integrity at manageable volume levels is crucial. By preserving the amp's harmonic complexity and touch sensitivity, the Power Control switch ensures that your tone remains consistent, whether you're playing quietly at home or performing in a larger venue. With this feature, the Katana Gen3 delivers the full tube-like experience without compromise.

Durable Build With Modern Connectivity

Designed for reliability and versatility, the Katana Gen3 is built with gigging musicians in mind. Its rugged construction ensures that it can withstand the demands of regular transport and performance. Connectivity options include a Power Amp In for integrating external preamps or modelers, a USB-C port for direct recording and playback, and a stereo headphones jack for silent practice. The amp also supports the optional BOSS Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor, enabling wireless audio playback and remote control via the BOSS Tone Studio mobile app. These features make the Katana Gen3 a forward-thinking amplifier that bridges traditional tone with cutting-edge functionality, offering dependable performance in any professional setup.

A Guitar Combo Amplifier for Players Who Demand Precision

Peak tone and easy to use

Before this amp I'd probably used my acoustic 90% of the time and since getting this it's more like 70/30 in favor of my electric. The Boss Katana has an app on Windows called Boss Tone Studio that makes it insanely easy to adjust and save amp settings so that you can make a collection of your favorite tones. Even better than that is their library built by the community that only takes a few clicks to import to your own setlist. Right now I've got several setlists saved ranging from a Frusciante tone to a Mayer tone, as well as many more. It's wild how close you can get the tone to studio recordings. I live in a small apartment so I try not to play too loudly but I've used it in other venues and it plays really well and loudly too.

Big regret.

This is supposed to be easily used with the Boss Tone Exchange App. But to get there you have to download an upgrade into the amp, which will take multiple attempts and hours to complete, then you have to fight with the Boss Tone Studio app in your computer to accept the connection with the amp which, again, is unreliable and can take hours of frustration to finally get connected. It's just a really poor execution of a technology Boss clearly wasn't ready to put on the market. Amp sounds good, but 8O% of amp capability is absent without access to Tone Exchange.

This was my first amp and honestly it is amazing. I love that you can have clear tones and distorted tones. The only hard part for me was figuring out how to add distortion. I found out that if you put 50+% gain (I do about 60%) and put the type onto brown it gives a very nice sound!!

The Katana 50 Gen 3 is a great sounding amp, with many settings. Beautiful cleans to raging distortion. If you want more control of settings, and an effects loop, I recommend the Katana EX or the 100 watt model. #sweepstakes

    2) No, that's only on a Katana 100 model. Recommended options: Boss FS-6 (dual footswitch, latched or momentary) Lets you switch between channels and toggle effects. It’s two switches in one, and you can configure how each one behaves. Needs a TRS cable (stereo 1/4" to 1/4") to connect. Very popular for Katana 50 players. Boss FS-7 (smaller dual footswitch) Similar to FS-6 but more compact (side-by-side switches instead of stacked). Also needs a TRS cable. Good if you want to save pedalboard space. Boss GA-FC EX (more advanced, but only partially supported on Katana 50) You can use the GA-FC EX with a Katana 50 Gen 3 only when connected over USB and using external control apps — it’s not plug-and-play with just the amp. Probably overkill unless you want future expandability or already use Boss Tone Studio a lot.

Can I use this for bass guitar?

Can I use this for bass guitar?

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
A guitar amp is not designed to reproduce the low frequencies that are typically produced by a bass guitar. This means that it can compromise the sound quality of the instrument. Besides this, improper use of the speaker can also lead to damage.
