Just What I Needed!

I love this pedal. I have personally tried a huge number of overdrives, from very inexpensive to some of the best out there. I have tested out models made by Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Bixonic, Digitech, and Boss. The list goes on and on. Out of all of these pedals, I have found that the OD-3 is the best pedal for the price. In my opinion, this pedal outperforms even some of the more expensive, ?boutique? effects out there. I play a 1980?s era Fender Telecaster and I have always struggled to get just the right sound out of it. I love the single coil jangle and ring, but I could never find the right distortion sound for it. Fuzz boxes sounded muddy and modern distortion boxes sounded too high and nasal. I found that a combination of a few effects and my old Fender Princeton reverb amp gave a great sound, but I was unable to capture the sound that I wanted when running direct through a sound system. Thus began my search for the perfect overdrive pedal. After several months and many, MANY guitar shops, I found the OD-3. The controls are simple ? tone, level, and gain. The pedal gives a nice, warm overdriven sound and makes my Tele sound incredibly full. I run this pedal along with a Fulltone Ultimate Octave pedal (with the distortion rolled almost back to zero) and an EQ and I can get ridiculous sustain with beautiful, warm distortion. The OD-3 is also very transparent in its reproduction of my playing style and technique, which is incredibly important to me. I play a mix of blues, rock, and jazz, and I am able to get pretty much any overdrive sound that I want from slightly dirty to heavy crunch. If you are looking for an overdrive and have a less than astronomical budget, you REALLY need to check out the OD-3.

Gotta go full volume for minimal effect

Not really impressed...build quality is excellent with boss pedals but this overdrive seems basically useless unless you're playing at full volume as loud as possible and it doesn't offer much in the line of tone shaping or flexibility in being able to manipulate your sound.... when you're at the volume you need to be at to notice anything with this pedal you should already have all the natural tube drive you want or be able to get there easily enough..... it's really most useful as a boost imo..

I really like the sound of it both alone and in addition of other effects (wah-wah in particular).

  • If it were stolen. I would buy it again.

BOSS needs to promote this pedal. They have a real winner with this design. Sounds great through digital, solid state, hybrid and all tube amps. Much tighter low end than the BOSS Blues Driver.

I'm not sure why the first time I hooked up this pedal it didn't seem to have any drive to it no matter how much I cranked it, but a few months later I plugged it back in and gave it another try and it works great. There's more than enough overdrive and it sounds great! I've ran it thru it's paces with p-99's , hum buckets and different single coils and it's awesome with every type of pickup and amp I use it with and I've got a lot of options to play with. I'm not sure if something wasn't plugged in completely or what the deal was the first time I tried the pedal, it just didn't seem to have any drive at all no matter how much I opened it up,just got louder. Now I use it constantly and I love it. Glad I didn't get around to returning it or selling it cause it's great!

This pedal, like the SD-1, gives you a nice overdriven sound, just as you'd expect. Both pedals provide an additional punch to your sound, without drowning it in any muddy distortion. This pedal seems a bit louder than the SD-1, but still provides a similar sound, though it may be a bit clearer than the SD-1. Either way is a win. This one sounds a bit more rock n' roll, where the SD-1 sounds a bit more raw punk to me.

What's the difference between this and the Super Overdrive, which costs half as much? What does this one offer for the extra $50?
