BOSS VE-2 Vocal Harmonist featuring Annekei
Description
The Boss VE-2 Vocal Harmonist delivers sophisticated vocal processing in an easy-to-use pedal. Perfect for singers who play guitar, this portable pedal magically creates lush vocal harmonies that follow your singing, with pitch tracking your guitar chords, a preset key, or a blend of both. Using one of three modes, you can dial in gorgeous harmonies on the fly, even mid-song, without any music theory experience.
Auto-Harmony Mode Follows Your Guitar
In Auto-Harmony mode, the VE-2 listens to the chords you strum and generates matching vocal harmonies in real time. This allows for perfect harmonies in any key, even if you change keys mid song. With 24 harmony types to choose from, you can add full, choir-like backing to your vocals with the press of a footswitch.
Set Your Key for Solo Performances
When performing without a guitar, set your song's key using the dedicated key knob. The VE-2 will create harmonies based on the key you select, allowing solo vocalists and a cappella groups to benefit from lush harmonization previously only available to those accompanying themselves on an instrument.
Hybrid Mode Blends Guitar and Key Input
For songs that transition between rhythm guitar and lead playing, Hybrid mode generates harmonies based on both your guitar chords and the key setting. This unique feature ensures the right harmonies whether you're strumming chords or soloing. With a simple footswitch press, you have the flexibility to change between modes during your performance.
Essential Vocal Effects and USB Recording
In addition to harmonies, the VE-2 provides reverb, delay and an enhancer with pitch correction to polish your vocal tone. You can also connect the VE-2 to your computer via USB to capture your vocal sounds for recording, videos and more. Compact, portable and battery-powered, the Boss VE-2 Vocal Harmonist puts studio-quality vocal processing at your feet whenever and wherever you want to sing.

Works great but ...
I used to have a TC Helicon Harmony G and the harmonies sounded kind of fake, this sounds way more realistic and I think the pitch correction option will come in handy on "bad vocal days". It seems a lot sturdier than my TC Helicon pedal and I like the ease of use. All the controls are straight forward and without even having to read the manual I was able to plug it in and use it immediately (but read the brief manual as there are some options like setting up presets and such that are not as straight forward and that the pedal has multiple functions depending on how long you press it). My only complaint is that the guitar signal is not output through the XLR out jack, only the vocals and harmonies, it would have been nice to have and option of everything coming out through one but the guitar only outputs from the guitar thru jack, not that big a deal but it would have been ideal for an open mic for example to just plug one jack into the sound board and you're all set. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

Good But Could Be Better
Overall, the VE-2 is a great unit for acoustic/solo performers who want a bit more 'lush' to their sound who don't want to get bogged down in loops/patches/programming. Compared to metal stomp boxes, the rubber footswitch is great, as well. However, the VE-2's main drawbacks are: 1. No ability to switch harmony setting w/out purchasing a Boss footswitch. (They absolutely should've designed the pedal w/ a switch to scroll settings, i.e. split the long footswitch in half - one side turns it on/off, the other scrolls). 2. Certain notes get wobbly/shaky from time to time. 3. Doesn't let you combine both "Low and Higher" harmony setting. It has a few combo settings, but for some reason, they left this one out. 4. Footswitch - even if you use a footswitch, you apparently have to use two, as the first one will only change 'variation' and not settings. Uncool.

I was looking for a simpler, strictly harmony pedal for live performance. I have a VE-8 acoustic singer pedal that I use for recording. The VE-2 gives me those natural Boss harmonies without all the other stuff. Would have liked to get the adapter with the unit, like VE-8 and not have to purchase separately.
Great product, but the packaging sucks!

Great product! I would recommend it. 4/5 stars for me. I gave two stars due to the box was not handled right.

I am a full-time professional musician. I use this pedal at all my performing gigs. The first time I bought this pedal, it lasted me 2 and a half years before it gave out on my (stepping on the pedal would not activate the switch to harmonies). The next replacement pedal I got only lasted a year and a half before having the same issue. Other than that, it is excellent. I have a custom case for it, so I take excellent care of it.
I would recommend this product

Does it work with a Bass as the instrument source for automatic harmony detection. The description quite often refers to using "Chords" from the guitar (or keyboard) as a source of the automatic scale or harmony note generation. I am hopeful it would work with a singular note source such as a Bass, rather than having to manually set the key register for each individual song.
Yes. It'll work.submitted2 years ago

Hi! Does my guitar pre-amp pedal (the Boss ad-10) need to be connected to and run through the VE-2, or can they operate completely separately? Thanks! John

Do I understand that the Boss VE-2 does not allow me to have a part above and a part below the main vocal line? It's either one or the other as one of the reviewers stated.
