what you need most for what you can afford

this is a good mixer..lots of features, good sound and low price. I can hear the difference in the preamps from the previous series. The controls are all very smoothe and solid. The features are perfect for the weekend warrior..lots of what you really need with none of what you don't want to pay extra for. That's really it. The urban legends about poor reliability are way overblown from what i've read. A strong, vocal minority blasting away now that the internet provides a world-wide grumbling platform. Buy this, you won't regret it.

Good price and features

Well the price is awesome for the amount of channels and effects you get. Other than that, not a real great mixer, I have owned it for around 3 years and used it for about 50 gigs and around 200 practices. In two years, the left side went out, so we used it on mono. Now, there has been three different channels that have died as well. The noise levels it has is a bit high and the EQ isn't that great, but the effects are decent considering the price. The faders aren't that great either, as we lost many knobs and faders that have broke in the past two years. We are moving on from this model now and going to spend much more for something better. If you can take great care of it and keep it in one place without moving it around much and aren't planning to gig with it, it is a great practice piece.

  • No volume out of XLRs

Not sure why, but I can not get any volume from the XLR connections for mics. If running a CD player or MP3 player into the RCA connectors, there is plenty of volume. I was running a PEAVEY board through our system with no problems. Even with Master slide volume set at 0, gain set at 3/4 and channel volume slide set at 0, there just isn't much volume.....

  • Decent board. This would be perfect if it had 6 auxes.

I've been a pro drummer for 40 years and got into sound about 7 years ago. The board is pretty good. The 2 on-board efx processors are reasonable. The EQ soling is good. Except it kills the signal a little bit. Overall, I'm satisfied with the board. The one critique I would give Behringer is load it with 6 auxes. That would sell this like hotcakes. It would slay the competition. Of course, you could add a lot more of individual outs, etc, for recording. But, this is a lower priced desk. So, all this really needs is auxes for simple live performance mixing. Oh, 2 features I like is the ability to use noise-canceling headphones to the auxes. You won't have to go up on stage to balance the performers. The other, is the full board mute to play music during break. If the musicians are talking on stage, it won't get picked up. The on-board eq isn't really adequate as there are too few frequencies. But, it does help, a little.. I did have one major show-stopping issue 3 months after having the board. I was getting crazy white noise from the effect processors that were over driving the monitors and made them unusable. I opened the board and removed the 2 processors from the motherboard, cleaned them and put them back. Never a problem since. I've done outdoor and club bands. Some I was in....
