great product

This is a very cool product. I have 3 of them and have had no problems so far. I bought one in mid 2009 and I liked it so much that I decided to buy 2 more recently(Feb 2010). It's extremely easy to use. I plugged the USB interface into my laptop's USB port and Windows immediately recognized and installed it. Run RCA cables from the UCA's output to your mixer and you're ready to play your laptop through your system. To record, run cables from mixer to input on UCA. You have to get a recording software like audacity installed on your pc though. You probably can use the sound recorder that Windows has, though I've never used it. Go to the Behringer website and ask their support guys if you want more information. They're very helpful. At least that has been my experience. I also use one to connect another laptop to my TV to transfer sound(not picture. Works great! One thing though- I found that when I connect to my desktop(I have Windows XP) I have to go to "Sounds and Audio properties" and manually change the output to USB Codec, otherwise my pc continues to play through my pc speakers and not through my system. I don't have this "problem" with my laptops. To go to Sounds and Audio properties, click Start, Control panel,(in category view)Sounds speech and audio devices,Sounds and audio devices,Audio. Under "default device" change to USB Codec. Hope this has been helpful.

NOT "ultra low-latency"

The UCA202 is not a true ASIO device. The drivers use a WDM to ASIO wrapper (ASIO4ALL or the Behringer-branded derivative of it), which makes them unsuitable for DAW usage. The best latency you can achieve is about 50 ms (>1024 sample buffer) before you start getting a lot of audio dropouts/glitches. This may be fine for game/media output to a stereo or single-track recording, but it's unacceptable for any kind of real-time audio work. I also noticed digital noise on the headphone out due to the RCA inputs. The volume wheel did not affect it nor did turning off monitoring. I had to disable the input hardware entirely from the driver to make it stop. The audio quality is otherwise pretty good. I bought this to have a compact, portable ASIO device for music production work on the road. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

They make USB DACs that cost 100 times as much as this. Unlikely they sound 100 times better. This one has a very flat tonal quality, and when tweaked with an EQ, is still a little weak on the highs. Got mine to try and easily improve the audio quality of a 20 year old AMD Windows Vista 64 bit I inherited. It did. Overall best qualities would be 1.) not any chance of listener fatigue. 2.) performance to dollars ratio is impressive. 3.) No need to waste time digging through the web trying to find drivers. I did not connect headphones or a toslink to check those. My overall evaluation summary is to buy this and enjoy the music.

I originally used other audio interfaces in the past, that have since become obsolete (through drivers primarily). The UCA202 while not a pro interface, has out preformed some of my older gear, and at bargain price too. So far I have only ran into a recording issue with it once - when I was recording multiple instruments one at a time (most likely a software issue and not hardware, as I found I had to save the audio and close the file to record another). Although I like to play around with some audio (various instruments) occasionally, my primarily use is to input finished audio (recording my vinyl records, or special tapes that are not available on any other format), to output finished tracks to my audio system gear for listening, and make recordings on my equipment (CD's, cassettes, and even 8-track's) for personal use. Which it works wonderfully for, and gives a much clearer sound than I have heard for awhile. For my use the UCA202 outpaces my motherboards sound card of course, older nearly incompatible gear, and even a new internal sound card I purchased separately costing much more - but that one is worthless (in that regard avoid Creative sound cards). I've hard zero latency issues using it so far, even with various software programs. I'm impressed with the sound quality and would recommend it to anyone that isn't a recording musician that needs a higher frequency response for recording. It is plug-n-play on all the systems I've tried, Linux and various Windows systems, and as a plus works on laptop/notebook systems too as it is USB.
