ULTRATONE KXD12

Behringer

collapse expand iconDescription

The Behringer Ultratone KXD12 keyboard amp delivers the power and features you need to take your keyboard performance to the next level. With 600W of clean digital amplification, this versatile amp lets you easily dial in lush keyboard tones, add vocals and effects and fill rooms at gigs or rehearsals.

Fill Rooms With 600W of Bi-Amplified Power

Don't let its convenient size fool you - the KXD12 packs a sonic punch thanks to 600 watts of bi-amplified digital power routed through separate amps for the 12" woofer and tweeter. This provides exceptional clarity across the frequency spectrum so every note of your keyboard performance shines through. The amp is lightweight yet efficient so you get room-filling volume without lugging around a lot of extra weight.

Sculpt Your Sound With the 4-Channel Mixer and Graphic EQ

Plug in up to four instruments, mics or audio sources into the built-in 4-channel mixer on the KXD12. Use the mixer's level controls and 7-band graphic EQ with 12dB of boost/cut to customize your tone by enhancing or attenuating specific frequencies. Having this level of tonal control right on the amp means you can easily adapt your sound for different venues and playing styles. The EQ is especially helpful for dialing in the critical midrange frequencies that define your keyboard's character.

Add Vocals and Control Feedback

The KXD12 has an XLR input with phantom power so you can directly plug in your dynamic or condenser microphone. You don't need an external mixer to add vocals or other mics to your keyboard rig. The input features Behringer's FBQ Feedback Detection System that uses an ultra-fast circuit to identify feedback frequencies right away. When it senses feedback, the associated EQ fader LED illuminates to show you which band to lower to eliminate it. This lets you nip feedback in the bud so you can keep singing or speaking without interruptions.

Recreate a Studio Vibe With Klark Teknik Effects

Klark Teknik is renowned for their studio-grade effects processing and they designed a custom 24-bit effects engine for the KXD12 with 100 presets. Apply rich reverbs to make your keyboard sound like it's playing in a grand concert hall. Use choruses and modulations for animated textures. The delay effects range from classic analog to modern digital. There are also pitch shifters, distortions and more. The presets make it easy to add effects just like producers do in the studio.

Lightweight and Road-Ready

Even with its robust 600W of power, it's easy to transport to gigs and rehearsals. The 12" TurboSound speaker and 1" tweeter deliver your keyboard tones with detail and accuracy. Pick up the Behringer KXD12 and get studio-quality sound in a highly portable amp.

Totally unexpected need fulfilled

I am giving the KXD12 a full five stars because it does what I needed and it does it very well. I will get to one minor part I'm unhappy with later but for now let me tell you what I was looking for. I wanted something I could push my Boss GT100 through while feeling like I'm still getting the most from the GT100s modeling. I wanted to downgrade from a Fender Hot Rod Deville III 410 because I am a confirmed home user hobbyist and it is a fantastic amp but just too powerful for my situation. I had auditioned the Line 6 Amplifi 150 after learning the blue tooth connectivity issues has been resolved with an update - and they were - but found that all the clean amp models - while distinctly different - were lacking a certain something I could not put my finger on. I was really disappointed because I wanted an all in one solution but ended up returning the Amplifi. I then began looking at the Tech 21 Power Engine 60 because I was pretty happy with my GT100 and thought I could use it to amplify the GT100s tones without any coloring - since that is what it is designed to do - and even went as far as to place it on order with an expected shipping date of 2 or 3 weeks later. Then I accidentally clicked on the keyboard amp page and saw the title of the KXD12 which contained the words - Keyboard amp PA system - and started thinking, if you can plug your GT100 directly into a PA, maybe this is another option for me so I bought it hoping for the best. Once I hooked up the GT100 to channel 1 on the KXD12 and set the GT100s prefs to line out, it did a great job of amplifying the models and I felt like I was listening to some very real Fender style amps and reverbs. I regularly dabble in Metal and am also very happy with the harder - overdriven - sounds. Additional bonuses for me are - I can plug my iPad into another channel - or the RCA inputs - and play along with music easily and mix the volume better. I also have a Korg Triton keyboard and I plug this into a third channel and it meets my needs as a keyboard amp too. Having the 7 band EQ and built in effects is great. My only beef is no documentation is provided outlining the parameters for each of the 100 built in effects are nor does it seem to be available on line. The top panel itself gives you a broad idea of what each numeric range of effects gives you but you must audition each one to see if it is right for your needs. Not a deal killer for me but a minor inconvenience. All in all the form factor, versatility and full range sound reproduction of my GT100 makes this a sweet surprise I stumbled on. VERY happy with this as a sound engine, keyboard amp and PA.

Works great while it works, did not hold up

I was torn between the Roland and the Ultratone. I was told the Ultratone would work nicely, but would not hold up. Given the price difference, I went with the Ultratone. Sure enough, about 1 1/2 years later, it gave up the ghost. It was a nice amp.. .. while it worked. In fact, I really like it... just did not last very long; and, I did NOT abuse. Anyway replaced it with the Peavey KB2. Not as many features, but my experience with the Peavey stuff is that they are built like tanks. We'll see.................... Anyway, not problem with GC - always pleased with their service.

I use it on a Digital Piano. Love all the fetures on the amp. I would have to say it's pretty well stocked. Sound is very, very good. Comes though well when I go to one of the Organ sounds. Nice deep tones, and the highs are up there too. Good, Good, Good.

  • Great sound. Great value.

I wish there was an option to turn off the speakers when using headphones. That said, I'm very pleased with the KDX12. It has excellent, powerful (but probably not 600 watt), clean sound. For my home studio it gives excellent results at a reasonable price.

Can I plug acoustic guitars into this, as well as keyboard? Also, what is the difference between the middle price model and the highest priced model? They both have 600 watts but the highest end weighs more than (almost 50 lbs which is more than I want to carry). If this unit is not good for guitars, would you recommend an amp that can be used for keyboard, guitar and vocals? Also not much more than 40 lbs. thanks

This keyboard amp may also work well for a bass guitar but it wouldn't work well for a regular guitar.

This keyboard amp / PA should also support a bass guitar. However, you may want to get a bass amp.
