Awesome mixer, plenty of nice features and portability

Like others said, it is a bit confusing when first using, but when you get used to, this is a must for all musicians. There are plenty of head rooms for mic pre-amp, decent FX, and the most beautiful is RTA display that is helpful to control mic feedback. The reason I took 1 star out is due to Ipad app is suck, it takes out connection of android device every time you log in and too much laggings. Though android app is the best, very responsive and more options. It is sad that I now start to say goodbye to my beloved Mackie CFX to go with this.

Do NOT trust the built in wireless!

I've used this 2 out of 3 times with limited success in a fairly busy bar. What Behringer doesn't tell you until you research it online AFTER having issues...is that you need to use the laptop app to setup a secure network. Attempting to use this ANYWHERE with an open network is pointless. People will assume they can connect to the internet on their phones and jam it up. After having successfully connected and tweaked at home with no problem..at my first gig with it, I couldn't connect to it at all. No connection...no mixing. Luckily there was another mixer there I was able to use. Talk about stressful and frustrating, though. Even after creating a secure network, the internal router simply isn't powerful enough to use reliably in a crowded area. The connection drops frequently and the app freezes and lags constantly. So you have to hope you can connect long enough to get a mix up and not need to make changes after. Even muting the main outs is a gamble. If you mute on break and then lose the connection and can't reconnect...you're screwed. I plan on trying to use it with an external dual band router asap. Kinda lame to have to buy a better router just to use it reliably. Sounds great. Lot of options. Just be leery of the wifi situation and have a backup plan.

I used this for about 6 gigs a month. At a gig the aux 1 jack stopped working. I exchanged it with the pro coverage insurance, but that was a hassle because it was determined to be a manufacturer defect not covered by the pro coverage. Guitar Center manager made the exchange though, and a week later the main outs stopped working at a gig. I returned it and was told the Xair 12 didn't use as good components as the Xair 18, etc. No thanks

Performances with a trio. Electric piano, bass, guitar and three mics. Thus far; really sweet!

Tried to save money, so I got what I deserved. Not even a year old and the mixer took a dump on me at a show. After months of working ok, I got a firmware error, but the tablet I used never went online, so nothing should have changed. Behringers items are throw away technology. Lived and learned.

  • Good product. Internal WiFi is awful.

The internal WiFi never worked out of the box. I bought a router and hardwired straight to the unit. I found that getting this set up properly was best done on a PC. The desktop version of the app seemed to be the easiest to use. Once the unit is set up from the desktop, some fine tuning can be done on an iPad. I did not find the effects in the unit to be all that clear so I stuck with my G Major. I play 1-3 shows a month and now have the ability to have a partner in the crowd to get a good mix. I'd recommend this but with an ****.

This is a great little mixer for the money. It comes jam packed with lots of digital effects, graphic EQs, 100-band per channel Real Time Analyzer (RTA), Gates, Compression, MIDI controls, and so on. Learning how to use all the features of this digital mixer involves some effort, but there are plenty of YouTube videos to help get you started. There are even lots of advanced videos that can teach you tricks to get the most out of your band's sound. The XR12 has plenty of inputs to handle our 5 piece band (2 keys, 2 guitars, bass, drums, and 3 vocals). If we need additional mics on the drums (we don't usually need it), I have a separate preamp unit that takes all the drum mics and puts them into 1 channel of the XR12. As an alternative, we could have purchased the XR16 (which has 8 preamps) for $150 more, but I already had the external preamp setup. This gives us great sound for live gigs. The main outputs feed the PA, and the Aux outputs feed the stage monitors. Being able to hear each other well keeps the band members from racing to set their amps to 11. That way, we can control the sound that gets to the audience separately from the sound that we hear on stage. Yes, the lead guitarist needs to hear himself louder than the rest of the band, but the audience doesn't need that. All in all, it has lots and lots of features. It's great to be able to ring out the microphones to keep feedback at bay, even when the lead singer does his thing and jumps into the audience. And it's awesome to be able to separate out the different instruments and microphones so the sound doesn't get muddy and the vocals come through cleanly. If your band likes to gig, it's a very good investment.

This is a great little digital mixer. I have another device with other preamp inputs that I use along with this, so I have plenty of preamp and line inputs. That said, if you need 16 preamp inputs, the X Air XR18 would be a nice step up. The learning curve is a little steep if you've never used a digital mixer. But once you do (lots and lots of YouTube videos out there), it's pretty sweet: live Frequency Analyzer, you have a graphic EQ on all 12 channels, separate aux outs (which we use for monitors), the headphone output which can be routed completely independently, lots of effects, etc. I use this for recording and for live gigs. For our 5 piece band, it has everything we need.

No, you would need a modem to create a WiFi network. This needs to have WiFi in the area. The app appears to favor tablets. There is no app for an iPhone as far as I know.

This rackmount mixer has an internal router. It would just need to be connected to powered speakers in order to function.
