Very coarse G string

I bought these just to brighten up an old fiddle I only play occasionally. I have played the fiddle for 40 years and knew the old Black Diamond strings from years ago could be tinny and coarse sounding-- but the G string is especially coarse/rough and very loud sounding with not much tone. I think a piece of baling wire would sound better! I only used the G and D strings-- the D string was just ok. The price is right, but you get what you pay for.

These are great strings!!! I have them on an antique Antonius Stradivarious violin. Sounds like an old time fiddle!!! I can't really say anything bad about them, except for the fact that they stretch a lot for about three weeks after you put them on. I would definitely recommend these strings for anyone who wants to play old-time fiddle.

We just needed a G string replacement on a newly purchased fiddle. Having checked violin string prices, getting a pack of these for just one string was a no-brainer. Nice surprise! Smooth and well fitting (4/4 size), they sound great too! Glad we purchased 5 packs up front. Got a student? Get some!
