Takamine

collapse expand iconDescription

This great new orchestra model is an addition to the new TT Series of "Thermal Top" acoustics from Takamine. The top wood is treated with high heat, to modify the resins and sugars in the wood. This imparts a played in vintage tone and feel that is surprising in a brand new instrument. The CP7MO TT is an understated "working" guitar that features solid ovangkol back and sides for a balance of lows and highs across the guitar's spectrum. The neck is made of mahogany with an ebony fingerboard. The nut is a traditional 45mm, that is great for players of a wide variety of styles. The body and neck are bound in elegant grained ivoroid. The guitars is appointed with subtle 3mm abalone dots, an abalone rosette, and a distinctive abalonne T on the headstock. Like the other guitars in the TT Series, it features the stealthy TLD-2 Line Driver preamp and Takamine's legendary Palathetic pickup system.

An awesome guitar. The more it's broken in, the better it sounds. I've had it for over three years, and by now it has a beautiful, rich tone. I play at my local church and it's perfect. It's a bit on the larger side, and a little heavy, but that's the only flaw I can find.

Took my chances on an open box item. Takamine makes nice guitars and I have several. They should think twice about this "Thermal Top" idea where the soundboard is baked to simulate the aging process. This CP7MO looked great but sounded horrible. Sounded artificial like coming through a plastic amp. Weird overtones. Subdued bass notes. Not balanced at all. Stiff. Harsh. Sent it back.

I had been watching this guitar since it was announced at winter NAMM awhile ago, and when I finally saw that it was here i was stoked...but the price point put me off slightly. I ended up seeing one in mint condition off of reverb for 1250, so I jumped on it. My bank account was still hurting a little, but no regrets! It plays and sounds better than a lot of the Martin OMs I was trying out (I was looking for a full scale guitar to accompany my GS mini), and those were easily double the price of this guy. It's got very subtle but classy aesthetics in my opinion, and it is wonderful. My only caveat is that the nut width is a little bit wide...not too much of an issue for me because I come from a classical guitar background, but it may be not as comfortable for other folks. I love this thing though. I'm not sure if it's the ovangkol or the torrified top or what, but it sounds fantastic and wide open. Surprisingly loud!

Does this one have a thin or thick neck? Thank you. I am trying to find something with a bit of meat to the neck.

It's on the thicker end of the thin neck. It's larger than a typical thin neck.
