CP Cylinder Guiro

Great product, great price... if you like the sound of this instrument (say, from Santana records), then this is a nice thing to have lying around to get that little extra percussion element.

I bought this to have "in the studio". I'm giving it 4 Stars because I have very little experience with these instruments, other than what I've heard on records, and with that as a guide, this sounds pretty authentic. I will say that it's made of very durable wood, and the workmanship is very good as well! In fact, to me it's pretty heavy! I'll say that it sounds somewhat "dull" and not crisp or resonant using the supplied scraper, but that could also be my playing! I'd say it could be used as a "reasonable facsimile" for 1 or 2 songs by a band for covers that called for Latin percussion. It's too heavy for children, but overall, I'm glad to have it and would recommend this to anyone looking to experiment or learn, as these instruments can actually cost five times as much as this one (but I'd expect them to sound and perform more "musically"). Delivered in perfect condition but I'll add that I get a kick out of receiving a traditional Mexican instrument that was made in China! If comments are available, please let me know "your" favorite Guiro!
