SHOOTOUT! Celestion G12M-65 Creamback vs G12H-75 Creamback

Celestion

collapse expand iconDescription

Back in the late '60s, the G12H was created by fixing an 'H' type (heavy) magnet to the body of a G12M guitar speaker. Result: a speaker with more power and a different tonal balance: firmer bass and a more pronounced top end. So we added an 'H' magnet to the G12M-65 Creamback, create a speaker that delivers the sonic signature of a G12H combined with Creamback levels of power handling. The result is the G12H-75 Creamback. It delivers 75 watts of power handling with ease and has unmistakeable G12H tone, with a tighter low end than the G12M-65 Creamback and a punchier, more dynamic high end. The H magnet brings additional focus, body and girth to the Creamback tone. It thickens single notes, resulting in a highly articulate, vocal character. These additional characteristics mean that the G12H-75 Creamback offers exceptional performance when used for lead guitar and sounds massive loaded into a 4x12 cab.

It's a good speaker! A lot better than the V-Type that came in my Marshall DSL40CR. Big tones with vintage vibes. It has the Celestion H magnet sound with more power handling.

Hands down this speaker is very good. I play a little jazz and blues but mostly metal. I have been looking for a speaker that will sound good after putting a noise gate and tube screamer in front of my 100 Watt amp. It sounds good at low and high volumes with limited feedback in comparison to other speakers, which can kill your tone when you have a noise gate. You can really push these speakers hard! I have four of these in my half-stack and prefer the 16 Ohms because it is brighter and clearer to my ear which helps with the crunch. I purchased two new ones and two used ones for my half-stack that I am extremely happy with.

I'm using the G12H-75 Creamback in my 6505+ combo. It cleans up the sound from the original sheffield nicely and when paired with a 2x12 loaded with v30s it seems to add some balance to the very mid forward nature of both the amp and the 2x12. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

Paired two of these in parallel in a custom speaker cabinet. I've been using them with my boss katana head amp and it sounds amazing. Plenty of bass response without sacrificing the high's at any volume. These are well worth the money. The only thing i feel i should mention is that the cone is uncoated paper so if anything were to be spilled on them the cone would likely fall apart.

Purchased this speaker and a G12M-65 to replace the Seventy-80's that came with my Blackstar HT-60. I saw the combination of M and H Celestions being used for Rock/Blues combo's. WOW...what a difference. Gone is that fizzy sound. The G12H-75 cuts through with authority and the G12M-65 is warm and not muddy. Going to build an extension cab with two more of these. The Blackstar HT-60 is going to crank at high volumes. Try this combo you will love it!
