Using as a vocal mic while drumming, which is great for size and durability, but lots of bleed over of cymbals.

compact 57

Sound is much like that of the Beta 57, but in a more compact housing. Great for drum kits where the size of a 57 may get in the way. If I have one gripe about this mic (and the beta 52), is that after much use the rubber in the joint tends to wear, and sometimes fall out, though this is easily remedied through basic maintenance, or a small piece of cardboard.
Pricey but worth it...

This mic is all that we use for instrument recording... we own six of them in the studio. They are pricey, but deliver the fidelity that we have come to expect from Shure. Overall, we have found these to be very durable as well- some of these have been beaten to death and still function perfectly. We have compared this via waveform in Logic to our top-end mics, and have been very impressed with what it pics up.
