The Mystery of the East Beast - Cre8audio East Beast Film

collapse expand iconDescription

The East Beast is a subtractive monophonic synthesizer is a fresh take on old-school concepts with a few beastly twists thrown in here and there. Big filter cutoff knobs, envelope generators and fat-sounding voltage-controlled oscillators are hallmarks of East Coast-style synthesis, captured in the East Beast.

Fully patchable, East Beast’s components can be used as separate modules with external devices or to reroute its internal patching. It’s like having nine individual modules: oscillator, filter, envelope, VCA, LFO, multi-mod tool, sequencer, MIDI to CV converter and button keyboard—all in one supercharged semi-modular synth.

Controllable via MIDI, CV and integrated button keyboard, the step sequencer can be manipulated and transposed via MIDI and the onboard keyboard. For ultimate versatility, the East Beast can be popped out of its included enclosure and transform into a 40HP Eurorack module.

Mighty Big Oscillator

East Beast’s oscillator, designed in partnership with Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers, is a part of their fifth generation of analog oscillators stemming from 10 years of continued research into analog oscillator development. Its circuitry is not a clone or based on any outside designs. It is made with 100% modern components. This keeps it very stable, and gives it a super-rich and unique sound.

PGH Filter

Pittsbugh Modular Synthesizers are just as serious about filters as they are about oscillators. Most filters are transistor ladder filters, or copies of transistor ladder filters. The East Beast is not one of those. The goal in making this filter was to create a smooth filter with no dead spots, a very common phenomenon in filters. From nasally to biting and elsewhere, it’s all one big sweet spot, with no dead spots.

East Beast’s filter is a multi-mode filter, meaning it can be used as a low-pass filter, high-pass filter, band-pass filter or a combination of the three for an even wider sonic palate.

Shape the Beast in Your Own Image

To further sculpt the sounds, there’s an included envelope generator and LFO. The custom envelope circuit creates a snappy, percussive attack for expressive performance. The dual-range LFO opens up a wide range of LFO and audio rate modulation possibilities.

Get Patched

Semi-modular means that the East Beast will work without any patch cables or anything. East Beast has nine different patchable modules (oscillator, filter, envelope, VCA, LFO, multi-mod tool, sequencer, MIDI to CV converter and button keyboard). It comes with a whopping 18 Eurorack compatible patch points to plug into itself and your other gear.

MIDI and Sequencing

The East Beast has MIDI in and MIDI thru, so you can chain multiple MIDI monstrosities together. This allows you to plug a MIDI controller into the East Beast. Dive in with East Beast’s built-in tap tempo clock, arpeggiator and sequencer—and create seamlessly.

I purchased the East Beast as a dedicated bass-track or bassline unit in a quad synth setup after being disappointed with the TD-3/TB-3 products. I really can't believe what comes in this small package. The tone is absolutely killer both clean and nasty. The cleans are like butter and the nasty tones are intensely thick. 4 wave shapes to choose from and lots you can do with them. As an experienced user, I'm both stoked about the sound and amazed what you get for your money. I'd say this well-surpasses the Behringer Crave or TD/TB style units. It's rad.

I’m sorry, I don’t know. It probably can. Perhaps an inquiry to Cre8audio
