I've gone thru several Headset Mics, with the Crown 311/AE being the LAST. I've had people tell me that I look like an Airline Pilot and such, until the y heard my Mic. Now I don't use ANYTHING if I can't use my Crown. I have used my Crown CM311 for MANY different Styles of Music in almost every kind of venue around the World. Form Vegas, to Chicago, NY to LA (Where I live now...) Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, RnB, Blues, Country. You name it, THIS headset can handle it. It's also Light and Sturdy. And Feedback is Non-Existant. I've been close to Side Fills, and in House in the Crowd right next to the House Speakers. I have had this thing INCHES from the Monitors in several arenas... NOTHING!!! And, my Voice is always pristine and Clear. (Sometimes I don't know if that's Good or Bad... lol!) Makes it very easy to Mix into the House System. I have the Older model from 1996 (with Twin earpieces). So I'm looking forward to getting an upgrade to the New SINGLE EARPIECE Model as shown here. For those of you looking for a FANTASTIC Headset unit, PLEASE look no further than THIS ONE!!! (I use mine with the Shure Systems Plug. You can get different plugs depending on what Make you go with for a Transmitter/Receiver... So, whatever Make you go with, be sure that you get the plug that matches the unit!!! If you get a Sennheiser Wireless, make sure you order the Crown with the Sennheiser Plugs, etc...) You WON'T be disappointed. One of the BEST INVESTMENTS I'VE EVER MADE!!!

As a drummer, I have tried using boom mounted mics. The best, Shure SM58. the mic is great but as a drummer, always having something jammed in your face while trying to play is not only distracting, I was constantly hitting the mic and boom with my sticks. I had tried a head worn headset made by audio tech but it kept feeding back and sounded VERY thin. My wife complained about it sounding horrible. I found the Crown CM-311A on GC online store, used. It was a great price so I gave it a shot. the very first night I used it my wife asked me after the gig if I had gotten a new mic. She said it sounded terrific and that she could definately tell the difference. Numerous gigs later I am still using it and with great results. I can wail away on the drums while I am singing and it isn't in the way and I am free to move about and not have to worry about being right up on a stationary mic. I would highly recommend this mic, especially for drummers.

As a drummer/singer, I had originally used an Audio Technica wireless mic (forget the model) but sounded so thin and kept having wireless dropouts. switched to Shure SM58, which helped in the full sound area, but with a honking mic, boom and cable all in your face, very hard to be a good drummer. constantly hitting the boom/cable/and or mic with the sticks plus you just didn't have the freedom to move around. plus the mic in your face just is very distracting. I picked this mic up (CM311a) from GC online, used at a very good price. I am very pleased with it. it takes a bit to get used to the head mounting system but once you do, what a difference this mic has made I am no free to blast away on the drums and still able to sing and talk as I need to. there is an on/off switch on the belt pack which is very convienant. the only nuance is that the mic picks up heavy breathing. I am considering putting a small piece of electrical tap on top of the wind screen just to squelch that. just a thought on that, haven't actually tried it yet. I got a comment from my wife on or first gig, she asked me if that was a new mic because it just sounded so much better than the old head worn one. she really noticed the difference. I would definitely have to say that this thing sounds every bit as good as the SM58 that I was using. now that mic is freed up for my guitar player to use. I was getting a lot of feedback issues with the SM58 also, not so with the Crown. Very satisfied with it so far.

I've been a drummer(that also sings)for 30+ years...a few years ago, during a reunion rehearsal, a bandmate (a singing guitarist) offered to sell me a headset that he had bought while in another band. He said he didn't like it, and the price was right ($100), so I bought it. I had previously used a SHURE headset, but wasn't impressed with the inferiority and had reverted to a wired 58 for better sound. What a find! The Crown 311A is hands-down the BEST headset I have ever used!!! No more craning my neck to sing while playing my floor toms! No more hitting my mouth or teeth on my 58 & boom stand when I'm into a tune, and I no longer need to accommodate a mic stand on my riser - BONUS! It sounds just as good as my wired mic and I barely know I'm wearing it. I can bang my head while I play and it stays in place! I can stand up and interact with the crowd, as well as go out and still do my backup vocals while a guest drummer sits in! I recently purchased my first BRAND NEW CM311 (after I accidentally stepped on the original @ a gig). The Crown 311 is as awesome as it gets for headsets! Great price, great performance...just excellent all-around - a must for singing drummers!

    • Only headset we've ever used and been happy with

The Crown headsets set the industry standard 15 or so years ago. We've been using them for about a dozen years and have been very happy with the sound and endurance. They remain on the large side, by todays standards , and are a little loose fitting despite being bendable to conform to your head. But the sound quality is worth it. A thank you and shout out to Christian, the salesperson that took my order over the phone from the Guitar Center in Falls Church, VA. He was very helpful, getting me the best possible price while making sure I was getting exactly what I wanted as quick as I could get it shipped to me. Thanks Christian...

This headworn microphone can be used with a standard microphone connection(XLR) which would make it a wired microphone. Or you can connect to a wireless transmitter with the TA4F connector, but this will require a wireless system.
