D'Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel Ball End Acoustic Folk Guitar Strings

Description
The D'Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel Ball End Acoustic Folk Guitar Strings provide an unrivaled combination of warm, mellow tone and crisp articulation. Constructed with plain steel cores and silk/steel wrap wire, these light gauge strings are tailored for acoustic folk guitars and similar steel string acoustics. The silk and steel wrap wire are slightly softer than typical phosphor bronze, yielding a tone with enhanced warmth, resonance and sensitivity. An ideal choice for singer songwriters and folk artists looking to coax nuanced expression from their instrument. The EJ40 strings are precision manufactured in the USA to D'Addario's exacting quality standards.
Silk and Steel Wrap Wire Produces a Warm, Balanced Tone
The EJ40 strings feature silk and steel wrap wire, a specialized alloy that produces a tone with enhanced warmth and resonance compared to typical phosphor bronze strings. The silk and steel alloy has a slightly softer, more pliable feel that translates into greater tonal sensitivity and nuance. Chords ring with a mellow, rounded quality while single notes have a crisp yet gentle articulation. The tone is balanced across the tonal spectrum, with rich bass, smooth mids and shimmering highs that complement the natural voice of acoustic folk guitars.
Precision Wrapped and Polished for Optimal Playability
D'Addario pioneered the use of sophisticated computer-controlled winding to produce strings with precision wrap and highly polished surfaces. The EJ40 strings benefit from this advanced manufacturing process, with evenly spaced wrap wire that helps minimize finger noise and squeaking. The polished surface allows for smooth, effortless fretting and bending. Attention to such details results in a set of strings that feel as comfortable and natural as they sound.
Versatile and Expressive
Whether performing intricate fingerstyle passages, strumming full chords or flatpicking melodic lines, the EJ40 strings handle with ease. Their tone and feel inspire expressive, nuanced playing. Light enough for comfortable fretting yet robust enough for energetic strumming, these versatile strings complement a wide range of acoustic folk guitar styles and techniques. Available at Guitar Center, the EJ40 strings are an excellent choice for recording applications where a warm, natural acoustic tone is desired.

Great Strings
I ordered a set of these strings for my smaller body acoustic (approx. OO size). The factory strings were a bit too bright for my tastes, which the smaller body enhanced even more. So I looked to get some strings that might give me a smoother, mellower sound. These strings did the trick. Upon first stringing them up, it definitely adds a bit more warmness to the low end of the sound spectrum. Makes the smaller body guitar give a fuller sound. The price is not too bad too.

Don't waste your money!
I bought these strings for my acoustic and I played them for a week straight and the action is terriable. They always stayed stiff no give at all and it made it miserable to play. I also found that they break very easily when playing chords and complicated riffs. Overall i would not waste my money on these again.

Easy on the fingers, great tone. At 63yo with aging hands, these strings sound great on my Martin D-15. I use picks a lot less these days & I use a lighter touch, so D'Addario silk & steels are ideal for my playing style!
These sound fantastic

I was looking for some strings that sounded great, were more affordable and not to bright and tinny. That's when I came across these and haven't looked back! The feel is fantastic and the sound is full and balanced. Not too bassy, not too bright, just an even great sound across the board
Great for folk style and fingerpicking!!

Used to use Elixir. Then I started using the Daddario XS . A few weeks ago I took a friend just beginning to play to the GC Service Tech to set up her guitar and get new strings. He recommended Daddario 11/47 Silk n Steel so I tried them out. Great sound, looks and playability.
