D'Addario

collapse expand iconDescription

EXL140-8 combines one of D'Addario's most popular hybrid sets, EXL140, two additional low strings to create a set optimized for 8-string electric guitars. This combination delivers powerful low end for heavy chording and flexible plain steel strings for bending.

XL Nickel Wound, D'Addario's most popular electric guitar strings, are precision wound with nickelplated steel onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The result, strings with long lasting, distinctive bright tone and excellent intonation, is ideal for the widest variety of guitars and musical styles.

Wanted to drop from standard 7 string tuning down a whole step without having to resort to extra large strings. I use .10 Daddario's for my 6 strings in both E and Eb. I bought this 8 string pack and held the lowest string, .74, and used the rest to tune to A. My guitar was receptive and after a day of breakin all feels close to the 7 string setup I had tuned to B with lighter sttings.

  • Great for drop you tuning because of the 74 eighth string
