I use light top/medium bottom sets but NYXLs are among the best bright-toned, nickel-plated strings out there. I think they get panned by players who prefer either lower-tension, warmer nickel-plated, or those who swear by stainless. If there is a middle way, these are it. They last, they are bright, and they are consistent. They are not squishy and warm, punchy and muddy, or Stainless--they are precise. They may be slightly more brittle than some strings, in order to get their tone, but I don't believe reports that they break easily. I've never had a problem, but be aware. You will need EQ--I never leave home without it.

These strings seem to have an elegance or sheen to my ears. Very articulate.

I tried these to hopefully save money compared to the elixirs that I usually use. These XTs lasted one practice before sounding dull and lifeless. Elixirs typically last me about 3 months. The XTs were a big waste of money to me. If you like a dark thumpy tone they might work for you.
