DR Strings

collapse expand iconDescription

The DR Strings Drop-Down Tuning 5-String Heavy Bass Strings, designed by DR Strings specifically for bassists who prefer lower tunings. Utilizing DR Strings' Accurate Core Technology, these stainless steel strings deliver unwavering intonation and tone for drop D, drop C, and beyond. Drop-down tuning has never been so stable and reliable.

Accurate Core Technology Locks In Tuning

DR Strings developed their proprietary Accurate Core Technology to produce bass strings that drop into tune instantly and stay locked in. The hexagonal core and calculated string tension of these heavy-gauge strings facilitate radical changes in pitch without sacrificing tone or tuning stability. Once tuned, these strings hold their pitch through heavy playing, aggressive styles, and extreme weather conditions.

Clear, Balanced Tone in Any Tuning

While some bass strings lose clarity and focus when dropped to lower tunings, the DR DDT5-55 strings maintain a clean, balanced tone across the fretboard. The hand-polished stainless steel wrap wire and precisely engineered core produce rich overtones and a wide range of harmonics. Whether performing in standard tuning or experimenting in double drop D, bassists will achieve a full, musical tone with ringing sustain and articulation.

Built to Withstand Professional Use

As part of DR Strings' DDT line, the Drop-Down Tuning 5-String Heavy Bass Strings have undergone two years of development and testing to meet the demands of professional bass players. The high-carbon steel core and stainless steel wrap wire are durable and corrosion resistant, providing a long-lasting set of strings that can handle heavy play. These bass strings are ideal for touring musicians, session bassists, and anyone who relies on their instrument for a living.

If you want real, true bass, these strings are the ultimate delivery! Not for wanna-be guitar slingers; these Golden Gate Bridge cables require some actual grip-strength, but they'll rock the woofers and boom-cannons in the car trunks of generations yet to be conceived! I don't drop-tune to play, but these strings are priceless nonetheless; they maintain impeccable resonance, intonation and pitch for conventional performance. Additionally, even though their package says "regular", they ARE long enough to fit a 35-inch neck scale, as they did on my Schecter Stiletto. One advisement to potential buyers: initial modification to the bridge and nut of your 'axe may be required for the installation of these strings, because of their thickness; my humble personal opinion is that the effort is worth the result.

I found these strings to be a distinct improvement for my Musicman Stingray-V. The B string tension and response is solid. The G string response is much more prominent than any other sets I've used. Also, you would have to be a gorilla to break these strings. The only down side was the need to increase the neck truss rod tension to counteract the added tension that these thicker strings produce. Therefore, these strings may not be suited for some basses. I will definitely keep using them. They are an improvement over the DR High Beams and the other brands out there.

These strings stay in tune better than almost every other string out there. I have always been a fan of DR strings, but these are the best ones that DR has on the market hands down.
