DR Strings

collapse expand iconDescription

DR flat wound Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are built on a round core, unique in the industry. Hi-Beam bass strings require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically warm and renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don't eat your frets.

DR Flatwound Legend 5

I wanted a set of flatwounds on one of my basses for the country and classic rock selections one of my bands play. These strings are perfect. They provide a warm mellow tone, yet are quick and a touch crisp. They feel smooth and silky. Very easy to pluck. They are easier to play on some of the fast, snappy stuff that I do than the roundwounds they replaced.

Not for me.

Not pleased with these strings. The D string was dead out of the package, and I was in a time crunch, so I grabbed another set locally to replace the one string. The only plus sides are the Low B is clearer than most flats I've used, and the strings are quite smooth.

I had used Labella's on my headless, they crumbled under the stress of the headless tuning system. These worked much better and sounded fantastic.

I have never had any problems with DR strings. The Legends have the tone that I want and they feel great.

I buy the 5-string set and string my Jack Casady Epiphone 4 string BEAD. I prefer the flat wound's over DR's drop down round wounds and over Ernie Ball Cobalt flats as well. Fat sound with more growl to the ounce.
