DR Strings

collapse expand iconDescription

DR NEONs are super bright color coated strings that sound clear, bright and musical. Players are falling in love with the bright NEON colors and their remarkable sound. Super bright in daylight and under stage lighting, DR's NEON are 100% black light active and glow strongly under UV lighting. NEONs are the first coated string to make no apologies. While NEONs last as long as a coated string should (three to four times as long as uncoated strings) they sound as good, or better, than uncoated strings.

Bass strings

The strings were on back order, my local GC did not have them in stock either. Once they arrived, I installed them on my Jazz, tuned them up then let them sit over night. They are very noticeable!! More important, they sound good and they are staying in tune. I think I prefer a single color for the bass in the future, but the multi color would be great on my regular guitar(s). You can also download an app for guitar (only) instruction using the multi color string set. They should also do one for the bass.

Not what I wanted

Purchased these to see how they performed as a coated string. Coating seemed to have a somewhat gritty feel played a bit sticky. Tone was bright but not excessively so. No issues with tuning stability. Big problem when the coating on the unwound strings is coming off in patches all all along the length of the neck and doing so when played with a very light picking action for less than 30 minutes. Pretty much negates the benefit of the coating. Best suited for a colorful wall hanger.

I had never owned 'colored' strings. I thought it was a gimmick that I'd regret buying. However, these do sound excellent. I don't personally prefer colored strings, so after these I'll go back to one color. But, this review is in no way mocking the quality of these strings. And, they do glow in the dark so might be interesting for another persons preference.

strings are awesome for someone learning or for someone who has problems with vertical note movements as is assists in identifying each string. Great tool for learning, not so much for playing as they have a very bright sound. For some thats good but for me I like my bass to have a nice thud.

These strings look like standard bass strings that are colored when they aren't lit up.
