collapse expand iconDescription

The PHR9 Pure Blues Strings are constructed using traditional techniques for unparalleled blues tone, these roundwound strings are wrapped in pure nickel wire for enhanced resonance, sustain and vintage character. The strings deliver a balanced tone with punchy lows, rich mids and smooth highs that provide an ideal foundation for crafting your own signature blues sound. Touring artists like Derek Trucks rely on these strings for their authentic tone and durability. The Pure Blues strings are perfect for any guitarist looking to achieve a classic blues tone.

Round Cores and Pure Nickel Wrap For Fat, Rich Tone

Featuring round cores and pure nickel wrap wire, the Pure Blues strings provide a flexible feel and fatter, fuller tone. The round cores allow for a smooth and responsive vibrato, while the pure nickel wrap enhances resonance for increased sustain. Together, these attributes result in a vintage-inspired tone with punchy low end, rich midrange and silky highs.

Compression Winding Adds Mass for Powerful Sound

The Pure Blues strings are compression wound, which adds mass to the strings for a more powerful tone with enhanced resonance and sustain. The added mass also provides an ultra-smooth feel that allows notes to sing under your fingertips. Whether playing rhythm, lead or slide guitar, the compression-wound PHR9 Pure Blues strings deliver a bold, dynamic tone.

Gage Optimized for Classic Blues Playing Style

With a gauge of 09, 11, 16, 24, 32 and 42, the Pure Blues strings are optimized for blues playing styles. The lighter gauge makes string bending and vibrato smooth and responsive, while still providing enough tension for solid intonation and tone. The Pure Blues strings are also ideal for standard or dropped tunings used in blues music.

It's the feel...

I've been playing since the seventies and still have a Dean Markley sticker on my 78 LP case. I've been playing Ernie Balls for years and tried DR Blues last year. Everything they say about these is true. They are the most comfortable strings I've ever played. The tone is rich, not tinny like EBs. They have that broken in feel right away. One note: The first time I installed them I got rattle on the E and A but since I have followed the instructions on proper installation they are a dream to play and hear.

I love these string, if they didn't break all the time

These are by far the most comfortable strings I have ever played. The have an amazing blues sound and super easy to bend (with great precision). Unfortunately, the high E and B strings just don't last. Generally I get about a week of playing in (roughly 12 hours) and one of them will pop. Today the high E broke just while strumming. Perhaps a larger gauge would be more durable, but I'm to the point of switching back to a nickel-plated alternative.

These strings have beautiful tone. They feel natural. I have them on my Fender '75 Tele Deluxe. A set of 9's for the deluxe and they are fabulous sounding and responsive. #sweepstakes
