DR Strings Sunbeams NMR-45 Medium 4-String Bass Strings

Description
Sunbeams are another step forward on continuing a path for players who continually seek to upgrade their skills and tools to achieve great musical satisfaction. Sunbeams are the next generation of nickel-plated bass strings as they are wound upon round cores. Sunbeams are a step forward for the traditional player, as the advanced exponent of fretless bass, both of whom want brightness and warmth. Sunbeams feature the easily recognizable feel and flexibility of DR round core Construction, with nickel warmth, softness of feel, and increased response to magnetic pickups due to the sensitive magnetic content (compared to stainless steel) of the nickel-plated wrap wire.
Tony Franklin says "Sunbeams amaze me. I love them on my fretless."

Best Nickel round core string out there.
If you are used to popping and slapping stainless steel strings then you will hate these strings. But if you are a traditional finger-style player you will love these strings. Long lasting. Super finish. balanced frequency response.

just ok
Im a big fan of DR strings. I have been a user for years and years. I much prefer the Low Riders or Hi Beams than these. These just don't have the DR oomph that the other sets do. Not sure what it is exactly, since Im no string expert. They are way more bright and brittle sounding than I would have thought for a nickel string. Strings are a funny thing. Some people will love certain brands, while others won't. I highly recommend DR strings for their fullness and clarity. I prefer a little more bottom and less high end in my string, and if you are the same, I would recommend the DR LowRiders.

I think you have to match up the right strings with the instrument; I put these on a P-Bass, and their warm midrange tone fits that bass perfectly. But if you were looking for the brightest, crunchiest strings possible, these would not be it.

I'm not a Bass player, just starting to learn, but these strings are better than what I had on, they sound and feel good so far. Probably dosnt help someone looking to buy strings, but best I can do until I learn more about this instrument.
Great tone

I just switched out from a set of DR Fat Beams because I was looking for more of a classic tone out of my Stingray. I wasn't expecting any miricals but to my surprise I stumbled across my holy grail of strings. Honestly I can drop just about any string on my Stingray and find a good tone but these have that butter tone and we all know butter makes everything better. The "classic tone" that these strings produce are reminiscent of late 60's funk, R&B and soul sound while still retaining crispness and clarity. They aren't as deep as the Fat Beams but I feel that that gives them a more balanced tonal range. I love that no matter wether I'm pluged into my Bassman or my SWR I can still get that growl and punch.
Classic tone with studio definition

If you are looking for a good balance between nickel and stainless steel strings give these a go. I have them on my Stingray and they add just the right amount of girth without loosing definition. I love that I'm able to dial in a classic creamy Jazz Bass tone or a supper punchy P-Bass while still holding qualities of my Stingray. I'm having no problem with my slap tone but that is probably because I'm using an active bass. I don't think I would want them on my passive Jazz Bass though. Another great quality is there playability. These strings are flexible and easy to manipulate so they are perfect for a lite playing style. I still dig in every once in a while but I just don't have to work as hard. I have to admit that when I first put them on I wasn't planning on keeping them. They were a little too muddy compared to the Fat Beams I was switching from. I wanted to give them a chance so I left the on for a couple of secessions. I struggled slightly at first but as soon as I dialed them in I couldn't go back.
