I play DW since around 2001, and have loved everything except this throne. If you don't move it or don't have multiple users than it will work great, seat is comfortable for hours, not too firm, not squishy like Tama first chair gets after a while, you can also wipe it down after. base is really sturdy doesn't tip or slide around. Height adjustment range is good( I'm 5"9 and sit far from my kit). kids will need the 9000 "low" model. If your giving lessons, you'll want the Air Lift or Roc and sock. There are issues with this stand and the reason I still use Tama First chair (first chair isn't perfect either, top heavy gets pushed over when not in use). metal to metal contact vs clamp (seat to threaded rod), this may only become an issue long term, because I haven't noticed any wobble, also metal to metal in the height adjustment lock. Also, the Nut isn't attached to the base, It will hold to threaded rod and rise above it if some A hole spins your seat. This also happens after my kids use it for the keyboard or guitar. Get the 9000 or even the 3000 because they have a different, better Nut and clamp design. Even with some issues this is a good throne, and will be an upgrade for most folks, however if you can scrape up another hundred bucks than the 9000's the way to go.

I am using this tractor seat drum throne as a seat for my pedal steel guitar. The tractor seat increases comfort, even better than a rectangular or round seat. Steel guitarist traditionally use a rectangular "pack seat" with folding legs, which is basically a wooden box with a seat cushion on the lid. New pedal steel pack seats, with shipping, cost double, and much, than this drum throne. For gigs, yes the pack seat may be preferable, but for playing or practicing at home, and even gig use, the drum throne is a great option, and a big money saver. I'm very happy with this product, which should last many long years.
I would buy again

Does the seat top allow you to have it swivel? I would want to fix the height but be able to turn the seat some while playing since it is a tractor seat.
Yes it can.
