Deering Line Up - Sierra

Deering

collapse expand iconDescription

Deering's most popular professional grade banjo for almost 20 years. Greg Deering knows what it feels like to want a professional banjo and not be able to afford it, so this has become the flagship of their line. The Sierra is affordable with all the most important features that affect the tone and playability. Simple detailing allows Deering to keep the cost down, while still giving you all the important components of a high quality banjo.

The heirloom-quality, professional Deering Sierra 5-String Banjo features a sand-cast, virgin bell bronze, genuine Deering tone ring mounted to a 3-ply rock-maple rim with a one-piece resonator flange. Uses the same tone ring, rim, and flanges as the Gabriella model, which lists at $24,950! The mahogany neck, resonator with ebony fingerboard, planet-style tuning pegs, and satin finish enhance the classic appearance and playability of this powerful and affordable banjo. Deering includes a $180-value case with your Sierra Banjo.

collapse expand iconWarranty

Deering banjos with the lifetime warranty are only available through authorized Deering Dealers.

IF YOU BUY A "NEW" DEERING BANJO FROM A NON-AUTHORIZED DEALER, YOU HAVE PURCHASED A USED BANJO AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. When we send a Deering banjo to an authorized dealer, only that dealer or another authorized dealer can sell that banjo as new. If an authorized dealer sells a new Deering banjo to a non-authorized dealer, the non authorized dealer becomes the first owner and he becomes the bearer of the lifetime warranty; not a new dealer by transfer. When the unauthorized dealer sells that banjo to the consumer, even if it was never played or even touched, it is a used instrument and no longer carries the lifetime warranty. This is necessary so that we know how the banjo has been cared for between the time we ship it and the time that our customers buy it. We have no way of knowing how non-authorized dealers care for their instruments because we do not communicate with them. This also honors and protects the strong relationship between Deering and its treasured network of hard working Deering dealers. For your protection against theft and to ensure immediate proof of ownership, four digits of the serial number are visible on the back of the peghead on each banjo. The full serial number is inside the resonator. When you purchase a Deering banjo and send in the warranty card you will receive a Gold Credit card style ownership/warranty card. This gold card is embossed with your name and the serial number of your new banjo for easy identification. Take your Gold Card with you to festivals or when traveling so that if your banjo is ever stolen you can easily prove it's yours.

I wanted to followup on my initial review - since I wrote it after only having the Sierra for a week or so. I play it 2 or 3 times a week. I absolutely love it. Tone, playability, quality and style - all five stars. By purchasing a high-end instrument, I was able to enjoy playing more - so I've played more, gotten better, enjoyed playing more....

  • This is my 4th banjo - Will not need another!

I primarily play acoustic guitar. Decided to switch my focus to the banjo. I've had the Sierra for a week now, played an hour a day. It is fantastic. Just the right amount of bling. Fit and finish were perfect. Easy to fret Tone is fantastic. I'm sure the maple version would be too. It came in perfect playing condition, tuned exactly 1/2 step down. Banjo is heavy. I'm going to have to find a more substantial strap and stand now. Case is great too.

I am an experienced musician who plays guitar, fiddle and harmonica. Nevertheless, I wanted a new challenge, so I decided at age 65 to learn a new instrument: a 5-string banjo. After much research, I decided on an American-made Deering Sierra 5-string Mahogany banjo. I play a Mahogany Teton Grand Concert Guitar and love its deep mellow sound. I wanted a professional banjo that was a joy to play and had the volume to hold its own among other acoustical instruments in a band. The Guitar Center had a great sale before Christmas that allowed me to purchase a new Sierra for slightly more than used ones go for. Deering banjos hold their value. I am already having fun flat picking it and am slowly learning the three-finger picking technique. The Deering Banjo company has great customer service, and promptly sent me a replacement Hex nut for one of the banjo's round J-hooks that was missing a nut. I highly recommend the Sierra banjo for both novice and experienced musicians.

  • This banjo is absolutely amazing.

I'm really more between novice and experienced. I take my playing seriously, practicing every day for at least 1/2 hour. Just got the Sierra Deering after damaging the neck of my Gretsch (over adjusted the truss rod and cracked the neck). Wow! What a difference. The action is low and the strings are super easy to fret. No buzz, pure sound an intonation. I really like the way my hand glides so smoothly up and down the neck, making those transitions up the neck so much easier. I'm super happy with this purchase!

  • Would definitely buy this again!

Wow! Smooth professional looking neck and fret board. Action was set perfectly for me right out of the box. The tone quality up and down the fret board is perfect. Just got this on Friday and can't stop playing it. The quality of this model for the price is really a great value.

  • fantastic!
