Diamond Head

collapse expand iconDescription

Ukuleles are popular for a reason-they are just plain fun to play. Slightly larger than a tenor, the Diamond Head DU-200B Baritone Ukulele is carefully handcrafted from select mahogany and combined with a bridge and fingerboard made of rosewood for a soulful sound and excellent playability. As the largest of the ukulele family, baritones offer a much greater bass range than smaller ukuleles. And with their longer scale length, they also make an excellent crossover instrument for guitarists. Tuning the DU-200B is easy with reliable, guitar-style tuning machines that are perfect for the beginner or the advanced player. Topped off with perfectly dressed frets, quality strings and a pro set-up, these Diamond Head Ukes are a great deal.

Includes gig bag.

Great ukulele but...

This is my first baritone ukulele. I do play regular concert ukulele and both are fun to play. This ukulele is nice, and the action is really good on the neck, and its easy to play. The size is the biggest of all ukuleles. The one I received the tuners on it are black not white like in the picture, and the ukulele comes with a gig bag. The gig bag is horrible, its the cheapest looking gig bag I've ever seen. It's about as thick as a trash bag and feels like a trash bag. I think the ukulele might actually be protected more in a trash bag than the gig bag. The ukulele stays in tune really well, but mine is missing its serial number that's supposed to be in the sound hole. Overall I would recommend someone to buy it. I would just suggest that you also purchase a decent gig bag.

I should've went for the Ibanez.....

There is nothing I can say about buying lower price products. Sometimes, the lesser priced moddels are as good as. Not in this case. I should've went for the Ibanez. Uke does not stay tuned. After getting done with final string, the first string is out. I know what I'm doing. So re tune it. And guess what, out of tune. This does make a great display.

I bought this ukulele about a week ago but was to busy for a week to actually sit down and play it. when I did I started tuning it just like my other one and the D string broke. All I have to do is buy better strings but I was expecting a little bit more for the price.

I'm not a musician, but I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. So far, I've found this uke to be both incredibly easy to learn and fun to play. It's got a great tone and is just a delight to mess around with. I'm not sure how good it would be for people with higher aspirations than my own--I'm content to simply be a front-porch-strummer who plays along with favorite songs or friends on occasion--but I can't imagine anyone having a bad time playing this instrument. It also strikes me as a great place to start for a kid who wants to learn an instrument. It's affordability and accessibility make it a solid investment for a kid who might be too young to handle a guitar but who wants to learn some basics of fretting and strumming. If you're looking for an instrument to just play around with this is a fantastic choice. Or if you're thinking about moving up from a soprano or tenor uke, you could easily do worse than this. I don't think I'm going to be rocking any shows at any point ever, but I never wanted to so it's perfect for me. I love it.

Great little 4/6th of a guitar for the price. Already have a tenor tuned to the 'Chicago' tuning & the baritone uke is tuned ebgd so it was instantly familiar and friendly, although the neck is shorter than a tenor. Nylon strings have a nice feel and classical guitar sound. Blues on a uke? Jazz on a uke? The DU-200B inspires.

Casual fun - wanted guitar tuning too. Nicely built and decent quality, seems a great value. I will be doing some work with the bridge and the nut (usually is soime kind of set-up required) - and I suspect different strings will improve the tone as well. Overall I am very satisfied. I agree with some evaluations i have seen that the gig bag is really just a texturized thin plastic bag with a zipper. Better than nothing but not much.... Will be building a more substantial travel case for this, nice Uke nonetheless.

I am looking for a baritone ukulele with a "soft" action. I have terrible arthritis in my hands and need strings close to the fret. I don't have the finger strength to mash the strings hard like most uke with strings far off the frets. How would you rate this uke in that area?

OK, not great. You're only going so good of an action at this price.
