Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Blues Jam

collapse expand iconDescription

Over the course of '69–'70, Jimi Hendrix appeared at a few of his most noted live appearances—Live at Woodstock, Live at Berkeley and Live at the Fillmore East—using a mysterious red Fuzz Face Distortion with white knobs. That fuzz box sounded like a completely different animal from any of the other Fuzz Face pedals in Hendrix's arsenal, snarling with a far more aggressive, biting tone.

The pedal itself has been lost to history, but its unmistakably unique tone lives on in the recordings of those three iconic shows, and Hendrix aficionados have tried to cop that sound for years. We are happy to say that their tonal quest can finally come to a glorious end.

Poring tirelessly over all of the different customized circuit designs Hendrix used over the years, Dunlop's engineers narrowed down this elusive fuzz tone to a version of the Octavio circuit that didn't have the octave up signal. After making a few tweaks, they nailed it.

Now, you can get the same Fuzz Face tone Hendrix used to woo the masses at some of his most famous performances. It comes in a pedalboard-friendly Fuzz Face Mini housing, complete with an AC power jack and an on/off status LED.

Had a lot of different Fuzz pedals through the years. I love this one mainly because of the size. Doesn't take up too much space of the board but still captures that vintage Fuzz tone we all know and love. Will you sound like Hendrix?!? Well that all depends on your playing, but it will get you closer to the tone.

  • A great reproduction of a spectacular sound!

I use this in my rig when I get into my Band of Gypsy's mood. The sound is amazing and a fantastic replication of an iconic sound.

Love the tone of this pedal. First one I got stopped working right away and had to return to GC.

I'm running this pedal through a 100 watt Sovtek Mig 100. I have the pedal connected to a Fender Strat guitar, into a Dunlop Wah, then into a Fulltone Deja Vibe and then into a Ibenez Ts-9, set up as a slight boost and then into a MXR Carbon Copy Delay pedal and then into the amp with the Master and Volume on 3. I leave the BOG pedal on all the time and use my guitar volume to go from pretty clean at 3, to gain rhythm at 5-6 and balls to the wall lead gain at 8-9 (10 is too much). I was surprised that the BOG pedal was able to go after the Wah with no buffer in between them. The tone is good and this setup reminds me of Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wright. The BOG pedal is set at vol 10.5 o'clock and fuzz at 2.5 o'clock. I really like using my guitar volume to change dynamics/gain like Jimi used to do, and this pedal really makes that easy to do.

  • Only 2 knobs, but so many hidden sounds!

I'm a 3-5 day a week gigging musician and I also own a commercial recording studio, so it's easy to say that I know good gear when I hear it. This Fuzz Face easily holds its head high among the best of the best. It outed my vintage Dallas Arbiter on tone, and destroyed all the other Fuzz Faces in my collection for being able to remain versatile on different guitars and amps and still sound INCREDIBLE on all of them! Not easy to do - most FF's are finicky or have sweet spots. This one has boatloads of sweet spots and will respond musically and magically to every pick, strum, and volume change. Buy this thing - you wont regret it!
