EMG

collapse expand iconDescription

The EMG JMaster System pickup is inspired by the look, feel and sound of classic, time-tested pickup designs. As part of the Retro Active Line Up, the pickups feature Alnico 5 rods and wide-stacked coils for a rich and balanced single-coil tone. And like all EMG active pickups, the JMasters are free of hum and incredibly easy to install. The pickguard system also features a powerful set of master EQ controls on the upper horn of the instrument.

Use on homemade jazzmaster Non Fender. Soo many options regarding mid boost or flat db boost. Make sure you can stuff at least one 9 volt battery under pickguard or you need to route into body. Options say you can use 18 volts. Not sure wether you would need battery doubler to install two 9 volt batteries? BTW EMG also makes a pedal so that you don't have to install batteries into your active pickups. Option to choose 9 or 18 volts for more headroom. Look for "EMG ES-918" use trs to trs cable from guitar to pedal. ..

The pickguard dropped right into my J Mascis Jazzmaster and immediately unlocked the door to sounds and tones it has never been capable of before, it has become my choice guitar for recording DI for re-amping because of how many different sounds and vibes I can get out of it. And in the future I think it'll be my man gigging guitar for the same reasons. I will say I think it could be greatly improved by adding some sort of chassis that could hold the battery onto the guard itself because right now my nine volt is wrapped in electrical tape to keep it from rattling around in between the pickup selector and volume/tone pots.
