Responding to requests by pedalboard users for a compact pedal with plate reverb, Electro-Harmonix has added the Holy Grail Neo to its lineup. It's housed in a die-cast nano chassis and also features EHX's perennially popular spring and hall reverbs. A three-position toggle switch lets you select the reverb style, and the Reverb knob acts as a wet/dry control. To ensure maximum signal path integrity, it's equipped with true-bypass switching. The Holy Grail Neo also comes with a standard EHX9.6DC power supply.

  • Nano is Better for Add on Spring Reverb

    I have a Holy Grail Nano which I like. But I'm not interested in the Flerb, so when I needed another one I thought I'd try the Neo. That unfortunately was not a good idea. The spring reverb on the Neo is set really wet. In other words, the dwell is really long. If you want a surf guitar sound or spacey reverb then go for it. But if you just want a little background reverb to add to a non-reverb amp, stick with the Nano. You would think the spring setting on both would be the same but they are not. For me, the Neo is way too much; the Nano is much more usable.

    I got it because I really didn't like the reverb on my amp...it does what I want great reverb

    Have to run the knob almost off in my loop. Might be less sensitive in line. Some of these EHX pedals have "trim" pots in them. I had good luck with a Nano Clone regulating the depth and tone with them. I haven't had the back off this one yet. It would be nice to be able reduce the effect somewhat, but I'm using it as is right now.

    I bought this pedal to replace my Holy Grail Nano, because the Nano does not have a plate setting. The plate setting on my Neo sounds amazing. Very reminiscent of Led Zeppelin I. The spring setting does not sound as good as the spring setting on my Holy Grail Nano. But the hall setting sounds the same on both my Holy Grail Neo and Nano. The other issue I have with this pedal is that the default reverb setting is VERY high. For example, I A/B'd it with my Nano and 7 o'clock on the Neo is about 10 o'clock on the Nano. I also A/B'd my Neo with the spring reverb tank on my Fender Princeton 65. The 7 o'clock on my Holy Grail Neo is Noon (6 on the dial) on my Princeton 65. I don't know if this is a pot taper issue, as I have seen others have the same issue. If it's normal, I can't figure out why EHX would set the default so high. I mean, this thing gets SUPER wet at VERY low settings. I was going to sell my Holy Grail Nano, but will be keeping it for the better sounding spring setting. So, if you want a great sounding plate and hall reverb pedal, go with the Holy Grail Neo. If you don't want plate reverb, but want a great spring reverb, go with the Holy Grail Nano.
