Using it with a bass guitar.

I mostly play my bass in stereo. This will used on the bridge PU only. My first impression is that it tracks very well even the low notes. It seems to work pretty good below the low A too. Like most effects, it could be overused… I did get a manual with it and the power supply.
Excellent sounds but no manual, no instructions...

Does this track polyphonic strumming? or only "lead" gtr solo/melody playing? Curious about the other "9" series aswell
The Electro-Harmonix STRING9 String Ensemble and String Synthesizer effects pedal does track polyphonic strumming, not just single-note lead or melody playing. It’s designed to transform your guitar's signal into various string ensemble and synth-style textures—similar to orchestral strings, Mellotron-type voices, and other layered string sounds. Unlike monophonic synth pedals, the STRING9 can handle chords and strummed guitar parts, making it suitable for rhythm as well as lead playing. That said, for best results: Clean, precise playing helps—excessive fret buzz, string noise, or complex voicings with lots of overlapping notes might cause muddier tracking. Using the neck pickup and rolling off some tone (as per EHX recommendations) often improves tracking and tone. It tracks better with standard tuning and regular guitar strings (not too heavy gauge).submitted6 months ago

Should I assume this only works with magnetic pickups? ( no piezo sound with this pedal )?
Sure it will . A pedal doesn't "understand" the source. It will process any signal it receives.
