Electro-Harmonix

collapse expand iconDescription

The Electro-Harmonix Ravish Sitar synthesizer guitar effects pedal has polyphonic lead voice and tunable sympathetic string drones that react to your playing. Create your own custom scales for the sympathetic strings while you set the decay time for the lead voice. Two expression pedal inputs allow you to bend the pitch of the lead voice and control the volume of the sympathetic strings simultaneously. These unique controls offer the player the ability to program the Ravish Sitar to become a totally unique and organic instrument unto itself. The Ravish Sitar is a truly new design with the flexibility to be a crossover tonal wonder.

Better Then I Expected

I had a choice to get a real electric sitar, but finding one is a major hurdle and a very expensive one, so I opted for another choice, to try out an EH Ravish Sitar pedal AFTER hearing a couple of demonstrations online. I must admit my hopes for this this were high. When it came in, I hooked it up to my Epiphone LP and started playing an electric sitar for all practical purposes. I tried it on different settings with and without the sympathetic feature. Shades of Beatle George! I was impressed beyond those high hopes. Then I got a wild hair and hooked it up to my ESP 8-string bass. I had to turn down the sympathetic setting, because it would overtake the lead otherwise. A bass sitar sounded pretty awesome. Then I went for broke and hooked the Ravish up to my 12-string slide guitar using the slide and - are you ready for this? - an E-bow. I wound up on some uncharted planet in a galaxy far, far away. I don't really know how to describe it, but it wasn't like anything I've ever heard before. I'm most pleased with the accurate sitar sound this thing delivers without a sterile digital sound. I got a warm analog sitar voice out of it. I have a lot more exploring to do, but if I'm already this satisfied with the Ravish Sitar pedal, I'm sure I'll only grow to like it and enjoy it more as time goes on. One thing is for sure, it sure beats putting out a couple thousand dollars for a Coral electric sitar or some hand-made equivalent. I'm not knocking them; I'm just saying this pedal is the way to go if you want the sound without the price tag. Oh, yeah, IT COMES WITH A POWER SUPPLY! How often do you see that. That's worth a sixth star.

Difficult to understand the operation even with manual

I read the manual several times. Its just difficult to operate and the effects are not that great when I can use it. I was hoping for an easy way to reproduce the Sitar sound and for me it hasn't worked the way I imagined.

Fantastic product, exactly what I was looking for, starting with the art in its surface. Offers a huge variety of sophisticated sounds that allow you to impress your audience when you play and make high level recordings at home studio an even at a professional one.

  • Very cool sound for trippy hard rock.

I used it to make a YouTube video and look forward to highlighting the sound in performances. As my comments indicate, it's not a sound you're going to use on every song, to say the least. I think for a good guitarist it's a performance showcase pedal for something pretty special in your set -- one feature using the pedal per show, I would guess.

  • Great pedal!

This is such a cool pedal. So far, I've really enjoyed the effects in my home studio. Excited to use it in a live setting soon. It is somewhat pricey, so be sure to buy during a sale or get an open box item. The open box ones are completely new and come in the box, sealed, with everything included. I cannot tell any difference other than the much lower price.

I could see it being a little frustrating for some people to get going at first. Start off little sometimes less is more. It sounds beautiful.

  • Amazing effects pedal. Very satisfied with it.

It is amazing to me how this pedal works to produce that classical Indian sound of a Sitar... it is very flexible and adds a nice exotic sound to your signal chain. The droning of the sympathetic strings (virtual, of course) is terrific and adds a dimension to your guitar sound that no other pedal I can think of

Could you please tell me what else I need to buy to use this pedal with my Ibanez RG421 guitar (if anything)? I've never used pedals before, so this is all new to me. Thanks for your help!
