Micro Q-Tron - Demo by Larry DeMarco - Envelope Filter

Electro-Harmonix

collapse expand iconDescription

The Electro-Harmonix Micro Q-Tron envelope follower effects pedal is everything you love about the Mini Q-Tron, in an even smaller, rounded-corner die-cast case. The Micro Q-Tron is a unique type of sound modifier, in which the user's playing style controls the effect. The volume of the input signal (also called the envelope) controls the cutoff frequency of a swept filter. As the volume increases or decreases, so does the pitch of the filter.

Controls

Drive Control - The filter sweep sensitivity control. Determines the width of the filter's sweep range by the input signal. Produces more sweep when it's turned clockwise.

Q Control - Determines the frequency peak of the filter. Creates a more dramatic effect when turned clockwise.

Mode Switch (LP, BP, HP) - Determines what frequency range the filter will pass through. Emphasizes lows in LP (Low Pass), midrange in BP (Band Pass), and highs in HP (High Pass).

Footswitch - Engages and disengages the effect.

Connections - Connect your instrument to the Input jack and your amplifier to the Output jack.

Power - The Micro Q-Tron is powered by either a 9V battery or an optional Electro-Harmonix US96DC-200BI 9VDC guitar effects power supply (sold separately). Inserting a cable into the Input jack engages the battery. For longer battery life, disconnect the input cable when not in use.

Playing the XO Micro Q-Tron

The Micro Q-Tron's effect is controlled by the user's playing dynamics—a stronger attack will yield a more dramatic effect, while softer playing will produce more subtle effects. Use the full range of control settings in combination with different playing techniques to obtain a number of different and unique effects combinations.

Use this with my Ibanez SR500 -- put on the Mode on Low Pass setting with the Q and Drive at about 2-3 o'Clock and I am sounding like a funky monk. Glad I bought this pedal!!

It took me a while to get it tweaked in. I'm using a strat and tele (it didn't sound too great with humbuckers). I finally found a sweet spot in hi pass mode with drive at about 2 to 3 o'clock and Q at about 9 to 10 o'clock. Personally all other settings didn't work for me. It takes some practice to get the feel. G and B strings really pop but I have to hit the E string a bit harder on both guitars. It's a nice little pedal....be patient with it and play around with it. I play in clubs on weekends and it's working out well.

  • Funky fun pedal that doesn't dissapoint.

I now own several EH pedals and this one doesn't disappoint. A great auto wah sound with pick dynamics that are spot on. I don't play many songs that require this pedal, so the cost value is excellent. Bottom line it can go from subtle to really quacky and in your face funky. It's a fun addition to my board!

Instant whacka whacka sound. Very sensitive to touch/dynamics. Lots of adjustability. I like better than a wah.

I've had this pedal for 5 years and it's stayed in excellent condition. Either for bass or guitar this will give a great funky tone, or even trippy tone. Easy to use and great to mess around with.

This is a solid well constructed, and very usable guitar pedal. If you like the sounds of the 70's you will be delighted with this pedal.
