    This is a great compact package to get your hands on FM (and your eyes away from the computer screen). While you do need to look at a screen, there's something much more tangible about using hardware. I've had this for about a month, and I've gone through a number of books about sound design using FM as well as watched a number of YouTube videos. Check out the Cuckoomusic Digitone tutorial if you want a crash course. This device makes you smile as you twiddle every knob. It provides hours of musical entertainment, and it's great fun if you're into sound design or if you want to create some sequences with some other external synths. I have two mono synths that I can both sequence and listen to right from the Digitone. Also, the sound library and sequenced sound switching makes drum parts possible and fun!

    This is a fantastic all-in-one box! You can choose how deep you want to go with it, or just load up some built-in sounds and start sequencing! 4 synth tracks + 4 midi tracks may not sound like a lot, but after using the sound pool you can easily manipulate many more sounds at once. I use this as a 4 track synth, along with controlling an external drum machine. This is my first Elektron product but I am very pleased with it. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an all-in-one solution that can even drive external gear. One can easily perform live with just this one unit, and have a lot of control with what is happening. FM synthesis, although it can be overwhelming, has great possibility for a diverse range of sounds. To me it is always worth the time spent. This unit is definitely the thing to get for FM synthesis lovers, synth lovers, groove box lovers, and full fledged sound designers.
