The Heavy Menace distortion pedal from Empress Effects is an evolution of the original Heavy pedal with updated features and a pedalboard-friendly enclosure. Across its three modes, including the Lite(ish) option, Heavy Menace can cover any high-gain sound from vintage hard rock to searing modern metal. The Weight control adjusts a high-pass filter in the distortion circuit to shape low-end character. Turn it up for a full sound or turn counterclockwise for a tight response that's perfect for palm-muting and extended-range guitars. The imd frequency is sweepable from 200Hz to 2.5kHz in order to dial in everything from classic pushes tones to modern scooped sounds. On the Heavy Menace, the gate is footswitchable, and a key input has been added to optionally trigger the gate with an external signal. Advanced setup options let players choose between True Bypass and Buffered Bypass, whether the gate is linked to the distortion or completely independent. With its convenient, smaller size, the Heavy Menace us a perfect fit in a variety of styles and setups, and for any high-gain player.

    Probably one of the best distortion pedals available on the market. It features a built-in noise gate, ensuring your guitar won't feedback, regardless of how high you turn up the gain. Additionally, it is extremely versatile. I can play anything from 60's blues to death metal on this, and everything in between. Amazing pedal.

    This pedal provides a lot of versatility for metal. I find the light and heavy settings to be the most usable. I have found that placing a fuzz pedal on front of this pedal is great if you want to soften up the sound a bit. I highly recommend this pedal.

    I've been looking for a certain metal guitar sound for a while. I didn't wanna buy expensive amp heads for it. This pedal sounds so good and the gate is the best gate I've ever used on a pedal. Love it!

    Usually when a pedal tries to do too much, it becomes somewhat mediocre. This pedal is essentially five pedals in one (3 different distortion pedals, a gate, and an EQ), but it sounds amazing in most any configuration. It's very versatile AND sounds great. Also, the gate is fantastic.
