Ernie Ball String Explorer: Electric Slinky Bass Nickel Wound 4-String

Ernie Ball: String Alloys - Cobalt Bass

Cobalt Introduction

Randy Jackson Cobalt Play Test

Description
These innovative strings are made of a cobalt alloy that produces high output, robust tone, and longer lifespan. The cobalt material has a strong magnetic relationship with pickups, generating an extended dynamic range, incredible harmonic response, beefed-up low end, and crisp highs. When you string up with these Ernie Ball Cobalts, you'll immediately notice their unparalleled comfort and flexibility, allowing your fingers to glide over the strings for fast, effortless playing.
Unmatched Tone and Sustain
The Ernie Ball Cobalt Bass Strings' special blend of iron and cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy available, attracting pickups powerfully for huge tone and sustain. The low strings pump out thick, defined bass, the mids are focused, and the highs are clear and singing. Overall, these strings provide seriously punchy, articulate sound with richness and depth.
Buttery Playability
Not only do the Ernie Ball 2736 Cobalt Regular Slinky 5-String Electric Bass Strings sound phenomenal, but they also feel amazing under your fingers. The cobalt material is silky smooth, enabling effortless fretting and bending. Your fingers will glide across the strings as you execute intricate passages at lightning speed. The slinky gauge also provides a familiar, comfortable tension that most bassists prefer.
Long-Lasting and Corrosion Resistant
The cobalt alloy used in these strings is highly resistant to corrosion and sweat, allowing them to last significantly longer than standard nickel-plated strings. They maintain their tone and playability over time while avoiding rust and grime buildup. For peak performance and minimal maintenance, the Ernie Ball 2736 Cobalt Regular Slinky 5-String Electric Bass Strings are an ideal choice.

Ernie Ball 2736 Cobalt Regular 5-String Electric Bass
I have been using these strings on my main fretted instrument (a Fender 5-string P-Bass) since they came out. I'd had D'Addario Chromes on prior to these, but the Cobalts seem to give that bass a huge boost in low-frequency response. I have had a couple break while putting them on; usually, it's the D string, and usually at the ball end, but have had no problem getting a replacement promptly. They're bright without being harsh. I play a wide variety of styles: blues, rock, country, reggae and more, and these seem to fit it all pretty well with a bit of EQ.

Great sound but thats it!
I put these on my Ibanez SR505, they sounded great but i switch off playing at my church with our other bass player so I play and practice preety often. When I put them on they gave such great low rumbling tone and sustained well but after just a little while they lost there sustainability and on some higher notes it just fades away really fast. On some notes it even just keeps climbing and climbing in volume which is really annoying when your playing a slower and quieter song, they are even rusting now (they said they are suppose to resist moisture better). All i'm saying is that i'm done with these and wouldn't recommend them.

I used to only use slinkys, in the pink pack, but now after using these, I don't think I'll ever go back. These are simply brighter, lower, and overall clearer. Amazing upgrade 10/10 WILL BUY AGAIN!

I have a 4 string American Standard P Bass, and I got it set up to use BEAD tuning, and its great! The strings broke once but only because an amateur didn't realize he couldn't tune the strings to E standard. The low B is clear, it's punchy, and it's tight! And the other strings are fantastic. I'd recommend having a luthier or the guitar center tech to set your bass up with them though. All the reviews that are about breakage just tells me they're doing something wrong when using them. Definitely recommend these strings though! But my new quest is to find a 4 string pair that has similar gauges, these are expensive strings after all.
