Ernie Ball

collapse expand iconDescription

The Ernie Ball STHB Nickel Wound 7-String Electric Guitar Strings are engineered to handle the extended range of 7-string guitars with aplomb. These nickel-plated steel strings are wrapped around a tin-plated hex-shaped steel core to produce a balanced tone across all seven strings. The three lowest strings—the .030, .042 and .052—provide a full, tight low end perfect for modern metal and rock styles. Meanwhile, the .010, .013 and .017 plain steel strings on top cut through with clarity to complement lead playing. Available at Guitar Center, the Ernie Ball STHB 7-String Strings are ready to take your playing into uncharted territories.

Core and Wrap Combination Delivers Tight Lows and Defined Highs

The Ernie Ball STHB 7-String Strings feature nickel-plated steel wrap wire surrounding a tin-plated hex-shaped steel core. This combination produces a focused low end suited for downtuned playing along with plain strings that ring out with definition. The varying gauges—from .010 to .062—ensure even tension across the fretboard for comfortable playing feel and intonation.

Three Low Strings Handle Extended Ranges

The three lowest strings of the Ernie Ball STHB 7-String Strings are built to handle the low tunings employed by 7-string guitars. The .030, .042 and .052 strings provide a tight, full tone when tuned down. Meanwhile, the .010, .013 and .017 plain steel strings on top complement lead playing by cutting through the mix. This combination of heavier low strings and lighter plain strings results in a balanced set perfect for modern 7-string playing styles like metal, rock and fusion.

Plain Steel Strings Retain Clarity

The three highest strings of the Ernie Ball STHB 7-String Strings are made of plain tin-plated high carbon steel. This material produces strings that ring out with clarity to suit the intricate lead work common in 7-string guitar music. Though designed for extended low ranges, these strings also facilitate articulation and definition on the high end.

Excellent strength and durability, easy to put on and get tuned up. Stays in tune very well. And really good for detuning.

These strings are perfect for getting that tone for playing hard rock/metal-core. I usually put them on my Schecter demon 7 and play songs from bands like Spiritbox, Currents or Periphery!

I use these strings on a 7 string Solar guitar with evertune. I tune to drop G and they still have great tension. I still have not broken one.

  • Not Heavy Enough for Drop A or A Standard

The 7th String is not heavy enough for tuning down to A. The Tension is way too low and the string won't stay in tune. I swapped it out for a .068 and it matches the tension of the other strings much better for A Standard tuning.
