I started playing saxophone about 2 years ago and this was the instrument i close at that time. I recently upgraded to a Yamaha YAS-26. The Yamaha is more responsive and it's easier to produce the lower notes. That being said, the Etude is a very solid instrument for beginners. Well constructed and blows freely. The Yamaha is six times the cost of the Etude. If you do not want to shell out that type of money initially, the Etude will suite you well until you feel comfortable upgrading. I've seen some people commenting on quality control issues. If you get one that is questionable, send it back for a replacement. Nice warm sounding instrument.

If your child wants to stay in band for about a month, this is a great deal. But if it ever breaks no repair shop will fix it, so you have to go buy another new one. I have had numerous students come in with these and struggle to play. They leak and get out of adjustment easily. Every time I've let a student borrow one of the schools mainline brand saxophones they instantly improve and get a great big grin on their face. If you buy this and your student is in marching or pep band you will also discover that the mounting hole for the lyre (the thing that holds their music) is round. Every lyre on the planet has a square stem on it, so it is impossible to use a lyre with this instrument.

Sometimes it has a flat noise but it looks nice and is an amazing student saxophone. It is also pretty cheap (for a saxophone).

  • It's a good saxophone to start with, the feeling is right

The great parts of playing with this saxophone is the fingering. The keys aren't too stiff, but easy to press down. And the bad part is just sometimes has a flat sound, but other than that, good instrument.

The main difference is the hardware. The 200 has some improved quality compared to the 100, but honestly it's minimal and incredibly difficult to tell the difference.
