Replaced the Original Roundwound srings on my Fender Squire P Bass Special with these Fender Flatwound Strings. Much better feel and tone. I enjoy playing the Bass more and will not go back to Roundwound strings. I can't tell if these are better than the Fender Flatwound Strings I purchased in the 70's for a previous P Bass I had but, I'm happy with these.

Can't understand why musicians use roundwound "SAW BLADES" ON their valuable necks. Smooth, comfortable and safe for your neck. Love them. Only used flats since 1964.

Once they are broke in, they have that perfect 60s tone.

I have been a lifelong Roundwound string player on both Bass and Electric Guitar, and recently decided to explore the tonal options of using Flatwound strings. I recieved the Medium gauge (.55-.105) of these Fender brand flatwounds as a gift and got around to putting them on my Mexi Deluxe Jazz Bass and they really suited the bass. Flatwounds seem to offset the natural brightness of Jazz Bass pickups. I recently acquired a Fretless electric Jazz/Precision bass and these strings were my first choice for outfitting my new bass. This Med/Light set versus a Light set also gave me better sustain on a used fretless bass with a fretboard worn down by years of the previous owner using Roundwounds. These Medium/Light gauge strings are the perfect trade off of heft/feel and tone; versus tension and playability on a slimmer Jazz bass neck. I bought a second set of these Medium/Light strings to relieve the extra tension on the fretted Deluxe Jazz w Medium gauge strings, even tho after 1.5 years of backup bass play, they are only barely showing wear. Yes, Flatwounds feel more 'tacky', they glide and bend less easily than roundwounds, they take some getting used to; but if you want a darker more robust "upright bass" like tone, then I reccomend giving these strings a try!
