Fishman

collapse expand iconDescription

Completely redesigned from the ground up, the all-analog Platinum Stage universal instrument preamp delivers incredibly accurate sonic detail for any acoustic instrument.
A discrete, high-headroom preamp combines with precision, high-speed circuitry for pure fidelity and low distortion. Classic Fishman tone controls are combined with a switchable guitar/bass EQ mode, making it more musical for use with bass instruments and more universal for recording and amplifying anything else. Critical performance features “ including adjustable volume boost and balanced XLR D.I. outputs “ are housed in a beautiful, road-ready design.

With an included belt-clip, the Platinum Stage is perfect for mobile instrumentalists, such as mandolin and fiddle players and other instruments which are too small or too precious for anything but a passive pickup. It can also be powered via 48V phantom power, offering complete control over your sound without batteries.

I'm using this with a Yamaha FG-TA transacoustic steel string. I was hoping that it would boost the under saddle piezo mic. It doesn't. It has an instrument level out, and a mic level out. Even with all the knobs cranked (including the boost volume) the signal remains wimpy. It does allow use of BOTH outputs simultaneously, so I can send the mic out straight to the board via balanced mic cable, and send the instrument out to my effects, then onto the board or an amp depending on venue. I find the piezo mic on the FG-TA to be problematic and badly susceptible to cable capacitance. First - a piezo out can have HUGE voltage output so you really do need a high headroom preamp before guitar effects. Also, this unit affords use of a shorty super low capacitance cable (expensive) from instrument to box, then I can use cheaper standard cables on the instrument out. So it certainly fits some of my needs, just don't expect some super hot output boost.

  • I love this.
