Dead on Acoustic reproduction

If you're looking for a great pickup this is it. The price is right on; don't flinch - it's worth the money. The humbucking model of this pickup eliminates every last bit of mechanical noise while pickingup and accurately reproducing the subtle nuances of your particular instrument. The best part for me is the slim but deep design. It's kind of hard to see but the pickup goes pretty deep into your guitar, nothing to worry about, in fact, it's great! Not having to worry about hitting the pickup with your fingers or your pick is priceless. I used a dean markeley and those things couldn't be more intrusive into my playing. The fishman is out of the way and with semi-permanent installation I know I am free to upgrade or do away with it altogether if that's what I decide to do. Which I won't!

It picked up the B and high E strings much louder than the rest of the strings throwing the sound of the guitar completely off balance. I was using a set of Martin bronze light gauge acoustic strings. I added a shim to the bass side to get it closer to the low strings but that still left the D and G strings unbalanced. I'm returning it.

I had this pickup installed in my Martin special 28 and was pleased with the job it does. It is very sleek and fits very securely in the hole. The volume control is accessible but a bit cumbersome to reach.

  • I will buy this again and again.

Product seems quality, I'm not much of a magnetic pickup guy. Also removing the pickup to replace the batteries would not work for my application.

My goal was to get a pickup that could be used for an open Mic (i.e. no sound check, can't have feedback, active, and easy to remove afterwards). I chose this pickup after trying and returning an LR Baggs M80 because it was too hard to take in and out of a concert guitar (soundhole about 3 6/8" or so). This one was really easy to mount and dismount by just loosening the strings, totally the opposite of my experience with the M80 with strings off completely. In fact, with a little more effort I was able to mount and dismount without loosening strings at all. I didn't have an acoustic amp handy, so I used an electric one, and it sounded good enough for my use case. No feedback when pointing the pickup at the amp. Volume knob was easy to reach. Guitar Center shopping experience was good. I would have given it a 5 if it had a receptacle to plug in a Mic add-on to make it a mag-mic combo later.

  • Nice sound

I ordered from my local Guitar Center and it was shipped as promised. It worked great for a few days then it abruptly quit. I returned it to the store and they ordered a replacement. This one has been working fine for a couple weeks now producing a nice full sound. Fingers crossed.....

Since it's just the pickup, you can mount it anywhere you want on the guitar. Typically it's mounted inside the soundhole in a velcro pouch that sticks to the back of the guitar.

So if you do not install the endpin mount, what happens to the jack - does it just hang out the sound hole or what?

Yes. It would be run out of the soundhole.
